Looks like the tubes are soldered directly to the PCB.  I'd stay away.

I would rather buy Dalibor's tubes if I wanted to get 5680s and support him, rather than some greedy ebayer.

Also not even six digits...

I have 7 Nix clocks and all are 6 digits except one.   The 4 digit is using 1N-17 tiny 1/2 “

Dalibor has put a nail into the heart of stuff like this now and I'm not sorry at all! This guy has lowered the price and sent me offers to buy cheaper. I wouldn't want them soldered either... No way.

Solder is no big deal. You can remove them easily, done that many times with B7971’s etc.

Call me paranoid, but heat from soldering can stress the critical interface between the pin and the glass. Once that gets damaged, bye-bye tube....
Hard to compare that vs stress from tube sockets, but if you use socket pins the force is minimal so that's what  use on my projects.

OK, here's another expensive set of tubes for your enjoyment:

The seller says tubes are tested, but did not post any photos showing that. Since there are 5 tubes, it's not a perfect-fit for a clock.

Also, several 7971's for sale individually, at 200 USD each (ouch!)

Disclaimer: Not my listings, and I have no affiliation with the sellers.

He has a good feedback profile, including a prior nixie tube sale. Personal insults aren't kosher for sure, but maybe this is a legit auction? Anyway, $250 a tube is a lot of money for these, but things are worth what people will pay for them after all...I've certainly spent more than that on a tube or more in my lifetime....life is short, enjoy what you enjoy.

Nick,

He viciously attacked me for what he perceived as a low ball offer for all 25pcs of these tubes.  I just want to warn any potential buyers he's volatile.  I never said he was a fraud, but just to proceed with caution in dealing with him.  I agree, they're worth what you're willing to pay, and I'm not willing to pay $250 a tube for these.

He had a negative feedback earlier this morning, I saw it and it was the most recent one, BTW.  It's since been deleted.

No worries Greg, I honestly believe you. He probably thinks he can make $6250 from all these tubes...with that amount of money at stake, that may explain (although not condone!) such rude behavior...

I don't begrudge him making $6250 all the more power to him if he can.  Just not for me and his behavior was uncalled for.  Just wanted to warn potential buyers of his volatility.

I would think many of the Nix sellers on the Bay may also be lurking on our group...

Funny I found out the tech Paul the seller refers to is a friend of mine... suffice it say the tubes are on their way to me at a reduced price now!  I have three others so it looks like it's finally time to build a 6 tube rack mount clock!  I found an old 9600 baud rack mount firebird like tester thing for serial communications... I think it might make a nice starting point it's called a INTERNATIONAL DATA SCIENCES TDM-MODEN TEST SET, MODEL 1310, RACK MOUNT.

It'll all depend on whether after cutting some more out of the sides whether I will be able to squeeze 6 tubes in there or not...  I don't want to move the handles really.  I suppose I better get out the Digital Vernier and check maybe this weekend...
