This year I would like to decorate the tree with a nixie clock. The idea is to put the tubes into 6 transparent balls. I’m looking for some upside-down nixies. Any suggestions?

Can't say for sure, but HP seemed to like upside down nixies: http://r.ebay.com/hwjqPi

Hi .. I have 7 Burroughs B5560 upside down tubes . You would have 6 and a spare . I was planning on posting these on Ebay . These are relatively rare Nixies . Email me if your interested and maybe we can work something out . I would rather someone from this group get them as they would appreciate them ..

Nice tubes, thanks James. But I am looking for tubes with larger digits. I think I will apply plan B and use 6 x Z5660M with a 3D printed socket to hide the pins and put the cables behind the tube. I hope it looks then like a candle in the crystal ball.

I wonder if Dalibor would consider making an upside down version of his tube? Seems like a relatively easy thing to do.
I have a vision of a rather exotic large clock that would require 4 inverted tubes.

Great idea! I wonder what he will call it, since there was no official inverted Z568M...

Let see, the 0 & 1 should work without modification. 2 could be an upside-down 5, and 5 could be an upside-down 2. 3 & 8 might work upside down but they could be ugly. 6 & 9 obviously would swap for each other.

That just leaves 4 & 7 to re-tool.

Terry.

Gotcha!   '3' would look like a garbled 'E'  so it would also need to be rebuilt.

Would it? You can just flip it around....(he says doing some painful mental gymnastics...)

Correct, just like the Russian 2, invert & flip to create a really bad 5. Or is it the other way around?

Eh? Am I missing something here? Just mount them all upside down. In your head imagine: pull the numbers off their mounts, rotate the tube 180 degrees, put the numbers back in their mounts. Now you have the pins at the top and all the numbers look just like they did before.

Don't think it's as straightforward as that as the contacts for each number are at the bottom of the digit...

Each digit has a small 'tail' with a round pad for the spot weld. It might be possible to make a small batch with an alternative used to attach a wire to the 'top' of the digit, maybe very small thin eyelet terminals sandwiched in the stack under each digit.

Upside down tubes will be available by beginning of next year. I already have parts for it (only the digits are different - welding tab on top vs. bottom).

Cheers!
