Did anyone get migrated to the 'New Groups' page format? Not sure if I caused it or Google just decided I would want it....

I didn't, I didn't  much like the new look...

If you don't like it, you can click the tool wheel to opt out..for now.....not sure if it might be forced on us down the road....

I see it too. I will just get used to it, because I expect we will all be forced into it eventually.

I have my mail agent set to reject the virus transport mechanism, er,
HTML mail.  Google somehow detects this and sends me plain text.

Stickied posts don't seem to show up on the new groups format.

The new viewer also mismanages new posts; even after reading a "new" post, it's often retained as new the next time I read the same thread when an update arrives.

Can someone confirm that google is now forcing users to log in even if they just want to read the conversations from the group?

I really hope not, we don't need more walled gardens on the web.

Yup, forces you to login now. Darn.

Maybe that's just during the migration phase to reduce the load. It would be a real shame if the forum would no longer be open to everyone.

I'm sure that no one wants to hear this but the solution to most problems of this type is to use an email client. I'm a member of numerous groups and list-serves. All incoming message are routed to an appropriate mailbox on my computer. I only become aware of problems like this when someone else mentions it.

I have decades of email in my archive and I can search through all of the messages from a group I joined 15 years ago. Posts that have been deleted are still here as my client never forgets. 8D

I'm not a huge fan and am just setting up an alternative in case we need to move again... Having said that, I'm sure it'll improve... There are several things that are very convenient about GG, but it's what the members feel that counts.

Cheers

I'm ok with Google groups what I'm not really a fan of is censoring search results for nefarious reasons.  I won't get started but suffice it to say there are other search engines.  Duck duck go comes to mind.

The GeigerCounters and GammaSpectroscopy groups made the switch to Groups.io a while back, probably after that last Yahoo Groups debacle. Everyone seems to like it.

Here's the home page:

Sounds good to me.

I can second Bill on this.
I also do not prefer Google(anything) for many different reasons.

Also Terry's suggestion is quite good, the smartsocket's group moved over to this as well.
I feel it is much nicer.

Many thanks

Should just point out that we already have neonixie-l at groups.io - currently it holds the old Yahoo! message base.

I'm currently adding the messages from here, and will then sync all future messages. This is not a zero-cost option - the import is chargable now as groups.io has been commercialised (understandably).

Just another stopgap.

Just discovered that I can no longer reply to a topic on my iPhone. A quick search shows that mobile users have to switch to the desktop version to do that. What idiot thought this was a good idea?

I thought that was just a glitch or something...is Google trying to kill Groups?

I simply use desktop mode on chrome on my mobile phone and I'm able to reply to messages. Even though it's an unnecessary extra step just to reply to a conversation, it's something that I deal with, whether I have a desire to or not. Wish Google would make an app for the groups so you can REPLY, FORMAT, ETC without having to use desktop mode on chrome for Android powered devices. Maybe this is also for Apple users too. **Shrug**

Nate (just for future reference, I always go by Nate, and if I talk to myself, I always say 'Nate...' or 'Nate,')

Also once you are in the thread you can reply by email.

Also... you can no longer edit a message once sent...

Pinning a message to the top also seems to have gone.

You should see "Reply to author" as an option...

It only works if you are using the old group website, not the new interface, in the new interface the option is greyed out so you can't use it - possibly a setting for the moderators to change, see screendumps below:
