Hi Yall,

After a couple of years futzing with it, I finally completed my clock! Most of this time was spent beating my cnc machine into submission to make the case.

This email is both for showing off and a shameless plug. I hope to have kits after Christmas. I would would have had them sooner, but I am going to Poland in a couple of weeks and had other priorities.

I've attached a couple of pictures of the finished clock. You can also find a short video of it on youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xeZ1YDSVO4

Congratulations on getting the full-length of the tube to illuminate. I've never been able to get mine to illuminate the entire length without getting strange effects afterwards, such as retreating from the opposite end.

How much current did you end up sending into the tubes ? I believe the datasheet is 10mA, I've pushed one of mine to 20mA and it wasn't fully lit.

Very well thought-out and original design.

Thanks Nick, Greg!

a fully lit lamp takes 4.5 milliamps (I just measured it). This is also about what the data sheets say. What you describe reminds me of when I wired my tubes in backwards, they took 20+ma and didn't last very long. As for retreating, If you are not going full on or full off, you need to ramp the voltage up and down a bit slowly, that is why you see the spiral you do when the clock changes. The IN-9, which is a two terminal tube, needs an even slower ramp to keep the line from going goofy. My clock will work with either tube. There is a jumper that the code reads to determine which tube is being used.

Wonderfull clock! Very nice...

About IN-13 some need "baking" i tested a few that made strange effects, but after leaving them on for a few hours they got to the normal operation

Oh so right! I forgot about that. I do have to let the clocks sequence from bulb to bulb overnight to get them to be full length!
