Crap, this didn't turn up in any of my searches.

I have one just like it.  Fortunately, it'll power up without other equipment attached.

Thanks for the reply John!  I wish I could find some documentation for it somewhere!  I've been looking but it predates the internet and it's nuclear.  During that time people didn't really publicise much about stuff like this.  Which dekatrons does it run on?  Can you tell?  Some counters use different dekatron models for the decades.

Thanks again for the post,

Bill

I purchased 600x IV-9 for projects.

These special ones are in the lot.   So, in the first 200, I ran across a total of 6 so far.

Has anyone seen these?   Take note of the pin count

Do they have a decimal or two?  I think there were some rare ones that did.

The display itself is an IV-9     So, the carrot type of period/comma.

The strange thing is the number of pins.   Since they don’t fit for my projects, I haven’t gone through to see what each leg is in comparison.  I thought it was a fluke to find one, but the count is now 6 out of 200.

Also not the white glue? On the backside.

I guess they all had a carrot shaped comma thing now that I think about it.  Not really a dot or a normal comma more like a little v shape.

Not all.

IV-16 is basically an IV-9 without a comma/carrot.

It's a nice catch - wish I'd seen it at that price :)

Looking at the tube construction and the likely age of the unit (mid 60s through early 70s from the styling and size), my guesses would be Mullard Z504S followed by ETL/Hivac GC10B (or derivative thereof) Given it's a US piece of equipment, the branding on the tubes might be Amperex and Baird-Atomic respectively. I suspect it has the same model of tube in each of the 4 decades - doesn't look like a fast tube in the least-significant digit position as is sometimes used. If those are the tubes involved, very strong chance they'll be working just fine, though obviously there could be problems elsewhere in the unit - dried out electrolytics etc.

Cheers,

Jon.

Quick video it seems to work pretty well. I'll open it up tomorrow and see how it's built and fill everyone in. I can't find any documentation on the internet for it anywhere.

On top of this neat score I scored even bigger yesterday after work. The timenut in me got a symmetricom syncserver S250 with the disciplined rubidium oscilator in it! Crazy lucky auction win. I need to find a good 12V GPS antenna with BNC connector for it. The symmetricom ones are pricy even used... I hope I can find a good solution. There are some window mount antennas too but I'm thinking this bad boy deserves the real one on the roof in the back of the house? If anyone has experience with these let me know. When I get the unit I'll put up a new post about it. Nothing like syncing all my clocks to thati think!

I am so jealous. But at least I have my rack-mounted Nixie clock that I paid $0 for. That'll never happen again.

Heh, well, it wasn't from eBay. I got it from a friend who was moving and had to give up all of his Nixie test gear. The "clock" is a timecode generator/reader.

That's neat Terry!  I have a Systron Donner counter with nixie tubes in it.  They made nice gear.
