I found an interesting web site www.bulbcollector.com (Probably known to
a lot of you all ready.) that has a lot of interesting information on
various types of antique lamps and some tube related info as well.
On the bulbs they cover incandescent, neon, argon etc. What caught my
eye was the following page www.bulbcollector.com/article005.html This
page covers early neon and figural advertising lamps. There is quite a
bit of information and references to the patent numbers. There is even
a drawing of a neon lamp with segments brought out to make an animated
walking man! This looks right up Dalibor Farn's alley! With Dalibor's
knowledge and modern etching methods some pretty neat things could be
made with the nixie clocks. How about a little animated man in place of
the colons?

There is reference to how Birdseye got started in the neon lamps by buying
out another company.
For the TCA there is a series of pages with pictures of some real neat
tube boxes as well.

I have seen single bubble light, night lights here and there.

How about a string of 201As and Blue glass Arcturus 201As hung on the tree
and lit up (Brass based tipped, even better) I almost forgot the super
airline Gold glass GX201As And 200As no silver getter to block the light.
So gold, silver, blue, clear. Would make quite a set.
More modern you could use neon Voltage regulator tubes. I don't know
how much light miniature xenon thyratrons would put out? Or eye tubes of
various types? HV could come from some of the Taylor Edge switcher
supplies.

Methylene Chloride is pretty nasty stuff; it's used as a paint stripper and is a likely carcinogen. I got some fumes in my eyes a few months ago while I was cleaning-up graffiti, and it was very painful.
