In 1966. In quantities of 1,000 or more. That is $37 in today's money. In case you get too concerned about the price of nixie's on ebay!

1000 pieces is too rich for me. Maybe we can pool our resources. Now all we need is a time machine ...

In Fall of of 1966, when this ad was published, I went with my father to the local VW dealer to pick up his new '67 Beetle. I was only 8 at the time. I think he paid ~$1700 for that car.

Meh,  you can buy gobs of USSR nixies today for less than that. No time machine required.
However, they wont have nearly the same quality or reliability as the Burroughs tubes.

I hate to think that someday in the future, 7-segment LED displays might be highly coveted and command high prices......

If you search ebay for "nixie" you often get people charging fairly silly money for an old seven segment LED calling them "vintage" and even "nixie tube"
Occasionally I'll point out the error of calling a solid state device a "tube" to the vendor via the feedback button and I'd encourage anyone here, who feels so inclined, to help stop this reckless dilution of terminology.

Cheers,
. Robin.

It is, technically, against eBay rules, but laxly enforced.

Neontact was a pre-flipper pinball machine made in 1935 by the Pacific Amusement Manufacturing Co and cost $62.50.

The neon tubes in the back glass allowed the letters of TWO - FIVE - TEN and TWENTY to be lit. A plunger on the left side allowed the ball to be deflected towards the horseshoe pockets.

The circular chrome feature, top right of the playfield, was a rudimentary tilt mechanism called a "Stool pigeon". A ball was set on a pedestal and set off an alarm if it fell off. The operator would have to remove the glass and replace the ball. A hanging plumb-bob system quickly replaced this silly idea.
