This used to be a meme on the web: 16 B-7971 tubes set up as a "Shoutbox", a term that isn't really used nowadays. The owner/builder/inventor has agreed to put it online for a while, so people can have a play with it,

You can read the full story about it at:

The way to get to the Shoutbox and post your own messages is the big blue button in the middle of the page! You can post messages, turn the lights off and on, and generally enjoy yourself. There is no registration necessary. Please keep it clean(-ish).

I want one.

Are the circuit board files available?  J

What was the cost to have 16 made, etc?

It would be nice if the camera frame was bigger.   Wink wink

At roughly 100 USD per tube, that's going to empty a few wallets.....

All depends if that’s what you paid for them....:)

I’d be interested!

I’d love to build one of these…  The 7971’s need a good home!

I was playing around with the shoutbox a few days ago. Really nice tube array.

Yup, it's great. Only wish the camera was better / need HD images.

Unfortunately it has been shut down again now. The owner only wanted to open it up to the Internet for a few days. Oh well... The article has been updated with a screen capture of a session, just so you can see what it was like.

This is a wonderful display. Thanks for sharing.

The closest I will ever get to 7971's is this:

What a lovely idea this is!

I was thinking of building a 7971 Circuit where people could snap their very private 7971 Text via the internet, by sending the content and getting a image in return, but well, since someone already had this idea, i'll leave it to it and start thinking about other unique circuits :))
