Hi all,

As someone quite new to Nixies, where would you recommend the best place to get some IN-18 tubes from? Direct from somewhere in Ukraine or off eBay?

Cheers,
Paul

Buy on eBay from a seller with decent feedback, pay via Paypal, and don't hesitate to leverage the various buyer protection policies to keep your investment safe. Many of the sellers there are from Russia/Ukraine anyway, so the tubes are generally coming from the same place. You might pay a little more than going direct, but if you're looking to buy a clock-full of IN-18, that's getting into the kind of financial input that most people wouldn't chuck around with complete indifference. My personal experience over some years and a range of transactions is that I've yet to have a significant problem with the well established nixie sellers on eBay. Occasionally they screw up or the postal service gets in a mess, but that can happen anywhere and as long as it's put right quickly and without quibbling, that's fair enough.

Others' mileage may differ etc etc

Jon.

Ukraine might not be the best place to be ordering IN-18 from right now...

Unless you've not turned the TV on for the last six months, you'll know that the Ukraine is in a state of some confusion, right now. The country is very split about its own future. This is MIGHT have an impact, somehere, on the chain of money/goods flowing from some parts of that country, to the West. I strongly recomend that you COMMUNICATE DIRECTLY with any supliers beforehand, to satisfy yourself that any transaction will not be impacted by the current sad events.

As otherwise noted elsewhere, look for ebayers with solid feedback scores, and a history of selling this type of product; check past sales of IN18 nixie tubes in particular. Look for phrases like "Date Matched" and "New, in box (NIB)" or "New Old Stock (NOS)". some ebayers will sell you unmatched, randomly dated and well-used tubes, without pointing this out (which is naughty...)

Currently situation in Ukraine is not that bad despite politics crisis. All delivery services and customs services are working as usual. Basically your purchase safety depends on sellers reputation. If it is ok - don`t worry about delivery.

Kind regards,

I have to agree with the others here.  I have been getting mine from eBay, and I have not had any issues with any of the different sellers I have used.  Like was said, just make sure they have good feedback, and you won't have any issues.

Stay safe Petro.
