Defective B7971 Tubes & Ultronic Chassis

I'm curious if anyone on the board has come up with any kind of use for defective B7971 tubes?  Over the years, I have collected a few of the chassis from the Ultronic displays and have also ended up with tubes that were missing segments or had leaked.  I have 5-6 of them and wondered if anyone had ideas for things to do with them.  I've used a dead tube to space socket pin connectors in a couple of projects but wonder if there is something more useful than discarding them.  I'm trying to clear out some stuff...

Depends upon which segments are bad; you can still get many characters to display.

Also, are the failed segment(s) completely dead, or do they have signs of poisoning ? You might be able to cleanse those with more current

Originally, I had no intention of using 7971's because I'm not a big fan of segmented displays. They seem harsh and un-artistic compared to the traditional full-formed nixies.

THEN..... last year I was given a defective (not completely dead) one. They are so doggone big that I could no longer resist.

I'm interested in paying for shipping-costs for a completely dead one, to use as a 'museum piece' at work. I'm sure others would like dead ones as well.

Hi,
I might be interested in taking those which illuminate but have dead
segments. I did post a couple of requests on here back in 2013/14 (I
think) for faulty 7971s but couldn't find enough at the time so the
project went on the shelf.
