NL-6844A

Does anybody here know why so many of the Burroughs B-6844 tubes found "untested" on Ebay are dead?

Conversely, I have found that a much better bet for untested 6844A tubes are the National NL-6844A ones.

Those seem tio always have a much better chance of still being good.

Anyone know why?

They had a short lifetime so they got replaced earlier in the lifetime of the product. In some cases the dead tubes were put into the boxes of their replacement tubes instead of being thrown out like they should have been. At least that's the conclusion I came to when buying thrm on eBay 20 years ago.

I stopped buying 6844's several years ago because even tested ones were pretty weak, and now I will only buy tubes clearly marked as 5092.

Yes I know.  They look cool though because of their shape and no mercury.  Short life but nice and orange and a neat envelope.   I have some of the other later mercury ones on hand as spares

but their envelope is not as cool looking at least to me.
