Very interesting

Hi Folks!

I was contacted by a friendly guy that offered me datasheet scans of the chines SZ-2 and SZ-3. When i first heard SZ-3, i was thinking about the well known SZ3-1 numerical nixie, but later i was told that this one has special symbols, and also the datasheet shows so.

Since i found no info's about this tube, and apparently this tube is undocumented, i thought i share the images with you. See attaches some photos the guy sent me. Look at this interesting nixie tube that indicates chemical symbols!

Someone seen this before?

Hi Jonathan, I have so many similar symbol tubes with no mark on it, but I know it's QS30 series (original model QZ1-xx), please check the Page 682-687 of Chinese <<Manual of electrical vacuum devices for radio communication>>, I scanned them for you.

Attached some pictures of them, these symbol tubes were produced for instruments at that time I think.
This one should be QS30-2B(SZ1-8A)IMG_7677.JPGIMG_7678.JPGIMG_7679.JPGIMG_7680.JPGIMG_7681.JPG

This one is very special, I can't find it on the model list, symbols are wrapped in ceramic sheets:

This one marked QS30-75, but I think it's the same one with QS30-7A:

I'm guessing this nixie tube was used in equipment for monitoring impurities in a steel plant.

Beautiful photos Yan, and thank you for sharing the data. Does your databook have any information on the Chinese dekatrons?

Jon.

Hi Jens, very nice collection ;)
A little tip on your page, manufacture of QS18-12 should be 南昌(Nanchang) or 新光(Xinguang), not "Zhishiguan(指示管)", Zhishiguan means the "Indicator tube", that's not a brand.
I have some QS18-12 (Xinguang brand) and QS18-21 symbol tube, I also have so many QS16-12(Nanchang brand) in the original box, smaller than QS18-12, check pictures.
Yan.

Wonderful photographs. We know so little about Chinese tubes over here (or at least I don't!), so it is really nice to see this information.

I had forgotten I had scans of the nixie tube pages from that book - I seem to forget more than I remember these days. Mine are much yellower though!

Cool!  So now, where can we buy them for 20 cents each?
