Currently working on a new clock with 4 x ZM1022, 4 RGB LEDs and 62 neon lamps, 2 for colon, 60 for the seconds. At the moment there are only two modes for the seconds (single and progress), but I will add some more. With all the neons and nixies on, the clock consumes about 35mA @ 170V. I hope I'll finish the case next week, I ordered a PCB for the front panel.

That's very neat, I have had a similar idea (in my head only!) for some time now though my plan was to use APA106 RGB LED's for the seconds, I expect neons will look more 'authentic' or 'nixie-esque'. SMD is something I have yet to accomplish - I live fairly much in the PTH world!

That is nice

Here is the clock in the case, 3D printed with an ENIG pcb as front panel. I was too lazy to make something else :-)

Very nice....bet that took a bit of fiddling to get all the neons through their respective holes....:)

:-)

I really thought that could be a major problem, but it was surprisingly easy because of the shape of the neons.

That's beautiful. I dread to think how much that 'PCB' was though!

Who makes boards in that size with ENIG for such a low price?

Absolutely beautiful build btw :)

I did a clock like that a while ago,

The round ZM1022s work much better with the circular motif than the tubes I used.
It also did not occur to me to use a top plate.

Your design came out looking terrific.

The fun part is all the things you can do with the outer ring of neons.
Various ways to display seconds, but I also added some random chasers,

Beautiful clock, Carl!

There are a lot of clocks with a led ring, but personally I prefer the glow of a neon ring, glows really nice in the dark!

Oh yeah, I did my share of led ring clocks too.

You can see one of them here. You can get some nice effects with leds.

But I also really like the neon glow.

More of that here.

I was going for that liquid bubble light look you see on some older jukeboxes.

It looks like you've got a pretty well stocked workshop behind there Carl!  That's some parts drawers you've got there!  Is this where the mod-six was born?

Best Regards,

Bill

Yep, the background of that video shows the disaster area/superfund site that I call my shop.
And the first (and subsequent) versions of the mod-six were born there many many years ago.

I love it Carl. One of the neatest ideas you came up with is the rotary push button selection dial for settings on the mod-six. I love that interface. It's much more intuitive than button pushing and since you've got alphanumeric display it's a beautiful marriage for a configuration user interface. It's a great method... You made it so you really don't need any instructions or manual to figure it out. I'm not sure how that came about but it just works great!
