Got another question...

How do other districts handle the enrollments and schedules for students who have a part-time schedule due to their IEP? I have a student who will only be coming to school for part of the day as written in the IEP. How do you handle the class periods they are not scheduled and how do you handle attendance?

Thanks

I also had this question once, and NDE advised me that whatever "their day" is according to an IEP or such, they are present 100% if they attend their partial day.

Blessings on your day!   =)

Did you only schedule them into the particular periods they attended then or did you give them a full schedule?

We have had a lot of these types of instances. We mark their Services Type as "N: Special Ed Services" on their enrollment and then if they are actually seen in our building for a certain time/class period then we put that into their schedule (only that course--not a full schedule). This is a way for you to track their attendance then and like Deb said, NDE would consider them being there for only one period as being there 100% of their day. We also mark their "Percent Enrolled" on their enrollment accordingly. So, for example, for a student who only attends one course with us, I believe their Percent Enrolled is 11. This way they stay out of NSCAS, etc. We figure this based on the number of minutes in a period over our full instructional minutes (so for us 48 minutes out of 430 minutes daily). This can all become somewhat complicated in terms of reporting, though, so please feel free to give me a call about it if you want because we have a lot of different cases/issues we've run into for sure!

Any advice on a student who only attends 2 days a week for 2 periods?  This student was homebound for quarter 2. How is his attendance marked on the days he is not scheduled to be at school?

I'm also curious how others handle what Christy just asked.
