Hi All,
We have a Middle School student who will be taking a High school course (Honors Algebra ll) in January.  This is a first for me.  Help would be greatly appreciated.

Take care,
Barb

We've had students that have done this.  What I did was:
1. Make sure you have that grade level on the high school calendar under Grade Level Setup.
2. Under the specific student, you will give them two seperate enrollment records, one at each school building; making sure to get the proper FTE for each building.  (I also changed the Service Type for the one with less FTE, at the High School, from Primary to Partial so it doesn't show the warning marks.)
3. You also want to make sure under the enrollment record for the High School to list the School of Assignment as the Middle School so the record is attached to the correct building for the student.
4. The student will then have a schedule at each building.  (On the Middle School schedule, you can put in a "filler course" on her schedule so you can see where she is at during the day while she is at the high school course.  Just make sure it doesn't upload since the high school course will.  You don't want both course to upload to Adviser.)

That's how we managed it at our district.

Hi Barb, I think it is a “what works best for your district” kind of setup.  Our high school grade levels in the SIS lists only grades 9-12 in each of our high school calendars. We create the high school course into the middle school course curriculum. Then we open up the middle school Grade Book for the high school teacher assigned to those course-sections. I checked the transcripts and it looks like the office staff transcripts the courses under the middle school group and not the high school.   See sample image.

(This is a sample of one student’s middle school transcript. The course numbers are mapped to mirror the high school curriculum).

Yep, it might depend on how many students and such.  Our student(s) over the years actually went to our high school to take the course.  They didn't stay at our Middle School.  That's why we handled it the way we did.  If they stayed at our Middle School, we might have done it a different way.  There isn't one correct way to make it work.  I agree with Angela that you need to make it work for you.

We did not.  If you are going to, you will probably need to enter it manually so it doesn't mess up the cohort year.  That is up to the discretion of the school district if you want to give HS credits.

Barb, I have manually entered grades for my 8th-grade students who take Algebra at the high school level, but I do not give them credit for the class.
