50 years ago this spring

Not sure this went through 1st time.  Great trip out to Colorado 50 years ago this April, except for the Lads swallowed up in a snow storm in NE.  My car visited my Uncle Carl and Aunt Pat in Holyoke Co on the way out.  We did not win tourney, but represented ND Rugby well.  Cheers, bobo

Vincent J. Kraft, 71, of Allentown and Hilton Head Island, SC died on Sunday, February 3, 2019. He was the beloved husband of Jo (Duddy) Kraft with whom he celebrated 45 years of marriage on June 16, 2018 and the loving father to Colleen Madden wife of John, Katie Feuer wife of Scott, Kevin Kraft husband of Jennifer and Patrick Kraft husband of Katie. Born in 1947 in Philadelphia, to John and Sarah (Logue) Kraft, Vince attended LaSalle College High School ('65). He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1969 where he played rugby and earned a B.A. in History. He earned his Master of Industrial Relations at St. Francis University in 1972. Vince worked for Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. in Trexlertown for 32 years, ultimately as Director of Industrial Relations. His incredible work ethic and genuine love of connecting with people shone throughout his career. He was delighted to retire at age 59 and play golf with Jo and their many friends in Hilton Head Island and Allentown. His infectious grin lit up the room and he never met a stranger. He was a legendary joke teller and was happiest surrounded by his best friend and wife Jo and their children and grandchildren. Survivors: In addition to his wife and children, Vince is survived by 10 grandchildren: Liam, Declan and Maggie Madden; Sammy, Rowan and Nora Feuer; Benjamin, Eleanor and Greta Kraft and Calvin Kraft and sisters, Jane Adam and Barbara Woodbury. Services: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00AM Monday, February 11, 2019 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1040 Flexer Ave., Allentown. Calling hours will be on Sunday, February 10, 2019 from 6 to 7:30PM at J. S. Many of you might be aware that our Notre Dame brother, Bob Fanning, recently entered the Billings (Montana) Clinic for heart surgery. What you may not know is that the surgery was a quintuple bypass and that Bob suffered a stroke while on the table. The surgical procedure was successful, but the stroke caused Bob to have hemiplegic paralysis to his left side. 

As you might imagine for anyone nicknamed " Bruiser," Bob is already amusing and astounding the hospital staff by showing his great faith in the power of prayer and determination to make a full recovery.  He already has impressed (and romanced) his Speech Therapist and yesterday he made a miraculously exciting amount of progress by moving his left foot . . . and proposing to the aforementioned therapist!! 

My money is on Bob to walk out of the Billings Clinic with his full rugby swagger and a beautiful Angel of Mercy on his arm!! Please join me in offering up a prayer for our comrade . . . and maybe a few good stories and jokes!! 

I will try to keep you all apprised of his triumphs on all fronts!!

For the past six years, the University of Notre Dame Men’s Rugby team has played the University of Arizona in an annual match called the Parseghian Cup. The universities take turns hosting the event, and this year, the Parseghian Cup will be played at Notre Dame’s Stinson Rugby Field at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 12, with a special reception and strolling dinner to follow. 

 

The Parseghian Cup is open to the entire campus, and we hope to have an enthusiastic crowd watch the Irish and Wildcats go head-to-head. The following reception and dinner are by invitation only, and we cordially invite you and a guest to join us from 6:30–9:00 p.m. at the Dahnke Ball Room in the Duncan Student Center. *Please note you do not have to attend the Parseghian Cup match in order to attend the dinner.

 

This dinner will be a special opportunity to hear from representatives of both universities. Importantly, the evening will provide a chance to learn more about the Parseghian family’s greatest fight off the field: to find a cure for Niemann-Pick Type C (NPC) disease, a rare and deadly disorder which sadly took the lives of three of Cindy and Mike Parseghian’s children. Proceeds from the match and dinner will support the Ara Parseghian Medical Research Fund (APMRF) at Notre Dame.

It’s a small Rugby world. Jerry Razer and I ended up playing with several Air Force guys here in Little Rock who played in this game. They were all  stationed at the air base here.

I also remember driving back with Tom Masenga and getting pulled over for an inoperable taillight.  Seems we pulled the plug out when we threw in our gear.

Bobby, hope you are doing well, great to hear from you.  Maybe Gary Grenier was there too, played many times against him ( Denver Highlanders)  in Boulder.  He's a good bud with Jerry.  The little Rock OB's came up to the Aspen Ruggerfest along w/ the Florida OB's for many years, really good guys.  Jerry and I have played with 'em and against 'em many times.  

Separated my left shoulder for the first time against Air Force in 1973.  Got it replaced last November.  Almost ready to play again!  Cheers, bobo

Long time no see!

I have had medical issues for the past two years.  However, upon partial recovery, I, along with Ted Valenti  plan to be on campus for the Stanford weekend on October 10-13, 2024.  There is suppose to be a NDRFC Mini reunion but that remains uncertain at this time.  However, I have lost track of where your tailgate location is as it has been some time since the last visit.

As you might imagine for anyone nicknamed " Bruiser," Bob is already amusing and astounding the hospital staff by showing his great faith in the power of prayer and determination to make a full recovery.  He already has impressed (and romanced) his Speech Therapist and yesterday he made a miraculously exciting amount of progress by moving his left foot . . and proposing to the aforementioned therapist!! 

My money is on Bob to walk out of the Billings Clinic with his full rugby swagger and a beautiful Angel of Mercy on his arm!! Please join me in offering up a prayer for our comrade . . . and maybe a few good stories and jokes!! 

I will try to keep you all apprised of his triumphs on all fronts!!

For the past six years, the University of Notre Dame Men’s Rugby team has played the University of Arizona in an annual match called the Parseghian Cup. The universities take turns hosting the event, and this year, the Parseghian Cup will be played at Notre Dame’s Stinson Rugby Field at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 12, with a special reception and strolling dinner to follow. 

 

The Parseghian Cup is open to the entire campus, and we hope to have an enthusiastic crowd watch the Irish and Wildcats go head-to-head. The following reception and dinner are by invitation only, and we cordially invite you and a guest to join us from 6:30–9:00 p.m. at the Dahnke Ball Room in the Duncan Student Center. *Please note you do not have to attend the Parseghian Cup match in order to attend the dinner.

 

This dinner will be a special opportunity to hear from representatives of both universities. Importantly, the evening will provide a chance to learn more about the Parseghian family’s greatest fight off the field: to find a cure for Niemann-Pick Type C (NPC) disease, a rare and deadly disorder which sadly took the lives of three of Cindy and Mike Parseghian’s children. Proceeds from the match and dinner will support the Ara Parseghian Medical Research Fund (APMRF) at Notre Dame.

 

The formal invitation appears below, and you can learn more about the Rugby match and the history between the two schools by clicking here. *Note, this is over the Notre Dame vs. Pittsburgh football weekend.

Been awhile since I addressed this list.  Larry Casey asked me to add a couple folks ( a while ago, been a bit remiss).  Hope all are well.  As many of you know, Eddie O'Connell died last fall.  It was oddly comforting to see his grandson running around in the jerseys we made for the Peachtree tourney in 1976?

 

On a side note, Tom Hastings, apologize again for my faux paus in Aspen Ruggerfest last time we met, 30 years ago?  And Burnsie, enjoyed our beers together in Boulder awhile back as well.  I will also send an email to a smaller group that we setup to communicate about Eddie O, as all those folks were early to mid 70's.

 

On a side note, finally did get end zone tickets for All Blacks v Ireland in Chicago for a ridiculous amount of $$ in Nov (Nov 1?) on the secondary market with a couple guys from the Boulder OB's.  If anyone attending, let us know, be great to meet.  Last time I saw the AB's in Chicago was a great time!  Beat USA 72-3?

As I was getting ready for the Aspen ruggerfest this weekend thought I would do a couple extra 40 yd sprints for Donnie the griewlor Griewe.  He and Robin and Lee F joined Bobo and I there about 10 or 15 years ago.  Gave her he'll and were my best times.  Thanks Donnie and all you guys for all the great years.  Wish you could join us next month in Aspen Donnie.  Will be thinking of you!
