request to identify the author (from Amr b. Matta)

Dear nascasiyun,

I apologise for this email, but I have a request for you.

In Amr b. Matt’s compendium *Kitab al-majdal* (al-bab III, al-fasl 4 - al-salib / الصليب), there is a passage from the writings of the wise men (hukama´ al-hunafa’ / حكماء الحنفاء).

Firstly, there is a passage from the Syriac texts of the Sibylline Oracles (قول سنبولا).

The second text is by an unknown author, a certain Sughus (سوغوس). The editor of the edition, Gianmaria Gianazza, nor me, we arent able to identify this Sughus, who he was?
Could someone help me:
a) to identify who the author is,
b) to identify which work by this author it might be?    

I have attached a scan of two pages from the critical edition published in 2024.

Dear Lukas,

It looks to me like سوغوس is an Arabic mistransliteration of the Syriac ܣܓ̈ܘܣ ("the sages"), and this prophecy is related to no. 23 in the Harranian collection edited by Brock (see the attached article). This seems even more likely because no. 22 is attributed to Sibylle and seems to be close to the one in the Kitab al-Majdal here.
