Peter Obi Asks President Ahmed Tinubu To Do A Keir StarmerEmojiEmoji

Peter Obi

Former Anambra State Governor and Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi, has called for the resignation of President Bola Tinubu over what he described as leadership failures.

Obi made the call in a social media post on Monday, citing British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s resignation as an example of owning up to leadership failures.

The former Governor noted that the British Prime Minister’s resignation comes amid mounting public frustration over a stagnant economy, a worsening cost-of-living crisis, and a perceived failure to honour key campaign pledges.

What Peter Obi is saying

Drawing inference from the UK’s incident, Obi, who recently emerged as the Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 elections, said President Tinubu has also failed to fulfil several promises made during the 2023 election campaigns and should follow Starmer’s example.

  • During the 2023 election campaign, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made several promises, including improved electricity supply.
  • “He also challenged the electorate not to vote for him for a second term if he failed to deliver on those commitments—particularly in providing stable power, fighting corruption, and improving the welfare of Nigerians.
  • “At present, however, these conditions have worsened. Electricity supply remains unreliable, insecurity has intensified in many areas, including kidnappings, and economic hardship has deepened rather than eased,” he said.

Obi added that similar concerns are reflected across other critical sectors such as security, infrastructure, transportation, and anti-corruption efforts, all of which have regressed. We are in the worst possible condition.

  • “I, therefore, join Nigerians of goodwill in calling for the resignation of the President over monumental failure in governance,” he said.

According to Obi, such a gesture would help enthrone a political culture rooted in accountability and responsibility, rather than further entrenching impunity.

He added that Tinubu’s resignation would also “send a powerful message that public office is a sacred trust, not an entitlement, and help build a society in which future leaders understand that failure carries consequences.”

More insights

The NDC Presidential candidate justified his call for Tinubu’s resignation, citing similar calls made by the President in the past.

According to him, before 2015, President Tinubu had on several occasions championed the call for the then President Goodluck Jonathan to resign over economic hardship and insecurity affecting Nigerians.

He added that during the Chibok school kidnapping incident, he demanded the immediate resignation of President Jonathan, arguing that the government had failed in its most fundamental duty of protecting lives.

President Tinubu’s media team has yet to respond to Obi’s statement as of the time of filing this report.

What you should know

Nairametrics earlier reported that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced that he would step down as both Prime Minister and leader of the Labour Party.

Starmer made the announcement on Monday in a statement outside 10 Downing Street, saying he had listened to growing calls within his party over whether he remained the right person to lead Labour into the next general election.

According to him, he has heard the answer from the party and is accepting that verdict “with good grace.”

Starmer’s resignation follows months of mounting pressure within the Labour Party after poor local election results, falling approval ratings and growing dissatisfaction among MPs and cabinet members.

Several ministers had resigned in recent weeks while dozens of Labour lawmakers publicly called on him to step aside.

Peter Obidiot is the stupidest and dumbest politician in Nigeria today. He is an empty head with low IQ. He has no solutions to Nigeria's gargantuan problems. That's why he doesn't have any answer to all the questions they asked him and that's why he told his interviewers to check his bad record in Anambra.

When asked how he would he solve Nigeria’s electricity problem if elected, he told the interviewer, "I won't tell you", because he has no clue. Similarly, when asked how he would address Nigeria’s security problems if elected, he said "I won't tell you". Someone who knows how to solve a problem won't hesitate to tell how he will tackle the problem. It's good that Nigerians are finally asking him those pertinent questions. He wants a free ride to Aso Rock. It exposes his lack of knowledge and lack of solutions to Nigeria's gargantuan problems. Someone who has solutions won't refer his interviewer to other countries: Egypt, Bangladesh. The fool is an Alaba trader. He needs to drop out of Presidential race now and go back to trading that he knows best. Presidency is a serious business. It's not for feeble minds and Alaba traders selling spare parts.

Baba Kayode,

Peter Lienus Obi cannot hold a thought for too long. It hurts his brain when he has to think critically. Him sabi trade sha o. He gives crazy responses to questions because he cannot think and hold the thought for too long. He even told the world he takes advice from a “madman”. Who does that? lol.

Someone taking advice from a “madman” wants to manage the affairs of a country as complex as Nigeria - that’s diabolical. Look at his history of management, starting with the most obvious, Anambra state.  In 2009 the authorities intercepted $250 million in cash of Anambra state money he was moving to Lagos. He said the money was to used in paying a contractor for vehicle purchases.

Peter Lienus Obi is a fraud being pushed via the same way they push Alaba international market products. Beware of any product from Alaba international market majority of it are fakes. Peter Lienus Obi is a fraud.

Thanks,

Tajudeen Raji:

Exactly. The fool called Peter Obidiot knows absolutely nothing, except how to trade. While, Tinubu is currently working on 209,000 Megawatt Solar Power projects with multiple mini grids across Nigeria, that will later be connected to the main grid, the fool called Peter Obidiot is proposing a meagre 10,000 megawatts that are not even sufficient for only one city out of 242 cities in Nigeria. The fool opens his mouth and just talk out of ignorance. He doesn't think whether what he talks about is reasonable or not. To him, 10 Megawatts is something very huge. Nigeria already peaked at 5,801 Megawatts under Tinubu, without counting solar power that has been generated through several mini grids across Nigeria and managed by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and not connected to the main grid.

Unfortunately, the fool called Peter Obidiot is Pastor Emeka Okala's messiah. Pastor Okala adores and worships him like something that drops down from heaven.

Only Pastor Emeka Okala.

I said it several years ago, that Africa has been rigged out of the World Cup long time ago and it will take a miracle for an African country to win the World Cup and I have been proven right over and over. All World Cup referees are bribed against African teams at every tournament, since the beginning of the World Cup in 1930 and African countries are only featured as spectators at the World Cup every four years. FIFA rigged out African countries long time ago and it's a shame. The game has been predetermined against African countries before it's ever played and African countries are only wasting their time going to the World Cup every four years. FIFA will ensure no African team wins the World Cup, unless there is a miracle where an African team pulls a surprise that is clear cut and uncontestable on FIFA officials like Nigeria did at the Under 17 World Cup in 1985, pulling biggest surprise on FIFA officials by beating Germany 2-0 at the inaugural championship.

Shame on FIFA!

World Cup: ‘It was penalty’ – Rooney on Konsa’s tackle on Ghana player, Adu

Daily Post

England icon, Wayne Rooney has admitted that the referee should have awarded a penalty against his country when they played Ghana in the World Cup on Tuesday night.

The Three Lions were held to a scoreless draw by the Black Stars, with both teams preserving their unbeaten records in the tournament.

Manchester United legend, Rooney shared his opinion on the issue during BBC’s Match of the Day, indicating that he believes England were fortunate.

He clarified that a penalty should have been awarded since Ezri Konsa made contact with the player rather than the ball while attempting to tackle.

The penalty incident emerged as one of the most significant discussion points from the match, where Ghana conceded the majority of possession.

Neither team was able to create many opportunities, and the no-call could have had a considerable impact on the match’s outcome.

In the 79th minute, Ghana winger, Abdul Fatawu regained possession before delivering a through ball to Prince Adu.

The striker was brought down in the penalty area by a desperate challenge from behind by Ezri Konsa, yet the referee ruled the tackle to be fair and legal.

Kayusee,

Not everything is wrapped in the cloak of conspiracy. Human error do happen in real life and yes, conspiracy do happen too.

Holding on to conspiracy is what has held Africa back in all fields, now as you are claiming in sports too!

When you know the odds are stacked against you, the only option is to put in 200% effort in to ensure your quality is unquestionable. Apart from that singular instance in the game, why didn't Ghana create 5 more clear attempts at goal.

When things go wrong, don't result to self pity but encourage your people to work harder.

Blacks were never thought to be good at basketball in the early days of NBA, but when they upped their games by honing their skills on dilapidated playgrounds of the ghetto, people cannot give them the cold shoulder. Same goes for athletics, although non-contact sport, if you work hard and you're not getting there, encourage yourself to work harder than everyone else and not blame your folly on some imaginary conspiracy theory.
False conspiracy theories only persist where there is no clear show of brilliance. Simple!

Regards,

Femi Olajide
