Hello,

Excuse-me if this is a double post, but I could not find what I think I had posted yesterday. I assume I did not click on the right button when I wanted to publish my post.

First, I want to congratulate Andrei Tkachuk and his team for the ideas and concepts they have implemented in the Android version (the only one I have checked). I have been testing all Android GTD implementations I could find those days. To me, MLO has the best task hierarchy control and the easiest way to organize parallel and sequential subtasks. I am very impressed by the ideas implemented. Congratulations!!!

Here are my questions for the Android MLO:

1. Is it possible to define new contexts such as @phone or @errands?

2. How can we handle "Someday" or "Waiting For" projects or actions to avoid them to clutter "Active Actions" and other views? As far as I can understand, these are not contexts in the GTD framework but task or project states that should not interfere with the "Active Actions" view. I have not found yet a way to avoid a "Someday" task to clutter my "Active Actions" and other views except selecting all the other contexts which is not feasible when the list of contexts grows.

3. Is it possible to indicate the action "Importance" in the "Active Actions" view? I can sort the actions according to their "Importance", but it is too difficult to know with one glance which one are really very important. A color code like those used by competitors such as DGT GTD or GoalsToDo is very useful.

I think that I would immediately buy the Android Pro version if the two first points could be solved. I do not know how to use MLO without them.

Congratulations to the team again for their implementation and thanks for any piece of information.

I found the answers to the first two questions.  For the contexts, @ & Locations tab found in the main window was the answer. For the Someday and Waiting For states, using folders can simulate this.  I have not found yet anything regarding the 3rd question about being able to see the task importance and urgency in the Active Actions view.

Hi, Michel.

I’m glad that you found how to add contexts.

For waiting and someday/never, I use contexts. I understand that it’s your preference to use folders. If you are using folders, let me ask you whether you have gone into task properties for each folder and checked off “hide the task.” – you might find it helpful.

I don’t think there’s any way to add an “importance” or “urgency” to a task listing on MLO v1 for Android. The next release (MLO v2 for Android, currently in beta testing) will allow you (with some effort) to modify your view to group tasks by importance and/or urgency. Note that there is no guarantee that every feature that appears in the beta test version gets included in the public release, and that there is no schedule or calendar for getting V2 released.

If you define your Someday projects by a Someday task.  How can you show by default the tasks with any context but Someday in the Active Actions view?  I do not want the Someday task to clutter my Active Actions view.

I have used Goals ToDo Full for several years then I used a little bit DGT GTD.  I am more used to have a project type (Active, Someday, Waiting For...) as a project parameter than as something else such as context or folder.  I started to read the Windows MLO manual to better understand the MLO framework.  I think I will soon better understand how to organize my tasks with this piece of software.

I did it for my Someday folder.

That is one of my main complain about the Android version: the lack of information in the Active Actions view which is my main one, both for the program and the widget.  The Goals ToDo and DGT GTB were much better.  But the way to define and manage subtasks is so clever that I am motivated to keep trying MLO :-)

Hi, Michel. If you are using MLO/Android together with MLO/Windows I can tell you how to make a @Someday context that never appears in Active Actions. If you are using MLO/Android alone, then you are better using a folder.

Hi again,

I never use Windows except for games.  I work with Linux.  Because I read in this forum that Windows MLO does not fully work with Wine, and I know by experience that running Windows in virtual environment such as VirtualBox can often be a hassle, I do not consider buying Windows MLO.  I will stick to the Android version, so I will keep the folders.  Thank you for your piece of advise,

pit
