hi All!

question for the group, is there any way to configure a button on the toolbar that allows to filter the view with just 1 click? it would behave similarly to the button that allows to hide completed tasks.

I'm looking for at least the following:

Importance filter, for example, only show tasks greater than Normal, etc..
Due Date filter, for example only show tasks that due today.

I know I can configure that through the left panel in 'Add advance', but I'm looking for a one click option.

thank you!

Hello Patricio..
MLO comes with a number of preconfigured filter settings (aka "Views"), but the problem is that everyone has a different way of organising their tasks, so the strength of MLO is that it is flexible - It has lots of task "Properties" and lots of filter options so you can set it up to organise your tasks in whatever way you want. Once you've set up a filter (along with grouping, sorting and zoom) to view the tasks you're interested in, you can save it as a custom View and share it between your Windows desktop, Android and iOS devices. You then have that custom View (with it's own icon, if you like) available at a single click. You can also assign your frequently-used views to a Workspace (Workspace tabs are shown just under the menu in the Windows desktop version), so they're available via a single click on that tab (or by typing Ctrl+PgUp or Ctrl+PgDown hotkeys).

The Views can be shown in the left-hand pane (the visibility of which can be toggled by typing Alt+F1), shared with the Filter criteria. If you can only see the Filter criteria in the left-hand pane, click on the "vFilter" header to drop it to the bottom and expose your list of saved, named Views. Configure an existing or new View by right clicking on a view in the list.

Regarding the specific examples you've given:
  1. None of the preconfigured Views uses an Importance filter, so you'd have to set up a custom view to do that.
  2. There are preconfigured Views for sorting actions by due date, also for filtering so you only see actions due in the next 7 days (for example).
All the best,
Stéphane

Stéph, thanks a lot for your quick response! Yes, I totally get the 'views paradigm" that MLO follows. Still, as a user I think that custom filters at 'one click of distance' would be pretty helpful.

Question for you, is it possible to sync a custom view created in windows to the iOS version app? I'm currently using the Cloud service to sync up between windows and iOS. If yes, I'd appreciate if you indicate instructions or share link to them.

thank you!

Patricio.

Hello Patricio,

It's not quite synching, but you can copy a view from one platform to the other. If you change the view though, you'd have to resend it to your other device. Here's how to send a view you've created on the desktop version to use on the iOS version:

Right-click on the view you've created on the Windows desktop and select "Export view(s)", then save it as a .mfv file.
Email the .mfv file to yourself.
On your iOS device, open the email and Send the attachment to MLO - As long as you have the Pro version, it will add the view to MLO on your device.

Views you create on your iOS device can also be imported into MLO desktop, by saving them on your computer and then right-clicking in MLO's views pane and selecting "Import view(s)".

All the best,
Stéphane

Hi Stéphane, I tried the steps indicated to import to iOS device, but I can't see the view in the iOS app. I followed the indicated steps... the option I choose in Iphone is "save file to" and I select MLO, but on MLO I don't see the view...

any ideas?

thanks!

Sorry Patricio.., I've got no ideas. Sending to myself in an email and then using the "Send to" or "Save to" (whatever it's called) function has worked in the past for me.

What about:
creating a new workspace tab
setting up the filters you want
right click on workspace tab
"Set as default for this tab"
right click on workspace tab
"Lock default in this tab "
right click on workspace tab
"Pin this tab"
Right clicking on the workspace tab will let you assign an icon, hotkey, and rename (by choosing "Set up workspace...")

Since pinning a workspace move it to the left, I have a set of buttons showing me customized views right above the view window.

This is a powerful blank slate program that requires getting your hands dirty. The filters require some fiddling. Turn the advanced filters on, and you can see exactly what you want.
