In my MLO setup, I have a master to do list but I use the 'important' column as a way to order my tasks for the day on this list whereas on any of my other lists from which the master to do lists pulls, I use the Urgency column to sort tasks. Is there any way we can get a column named something like "Order" or "Task Order" that would simply allow us to number our tasks. In other words, If I use it to order a task 1 (and the sort is sorted by 'task order' first) then this task would jump to the top. I would work just like any other column, but just have numbers in the column drop down menu. This would help me to sort my daily tasks in the order I want to work them.

Hi, Joel. I use Importance much like you do, to force tasks into a specified order in certain views. I understand that this isn’t consistent with the way that Importance was designed to be used in calculating the “computed score” but I was never able to make computed score come out how I wanted it and I gave up on it. This method is working well for me and I have no complaints. The only drawback is that when I first assign importance to tasks for some view I have to remember to assign numbers that are at least 5 to 10 apart (ie importance values 180, 170, 160 etc so that later if I have to insert a new task between two existing tasks there’s room. Also, it’s easy to adjust the order of tasks by selecting a task and clicking on the Importance slider then using the left and right arrows to finetune the importance value. The task jumps up or down in the view while I am hitting the arrows – very cool. It’s a little harder on Android where it all depends on dragging my finger to just the right spot on the slider.

OK, so my question is, why do you need another field? What are the disadvantages of using Importance and Urgency in this way?

You know Dwight, that's actually a good point and I didn't think about that. The problems would be the same with a numbered column so I guess I can say "scratch that". What I'm doing now would actually work better. Okay, I would like to unrequest this feature request.  ha ha!
