Hi,

Forgive me if this question has already been answered.  how do I ensure the tasks can be consistently viewed in the very same order that I enter them.  I find the order changes when I open a new workspace or when I zoom-in or when I print.  I want it always to be in the sequence I entered it and want total manual control over the order.

Thanks.

Hello Mohan...

You don't mention whether you want to see your tasks in the outline/tree structure, or as a flat list. The All Tasks view shows the outline in the order you enter tasks, so I'm assuming you want to set up a flat list.

On the desktop version of MLO, you create and select Views in the left hand pane (toggled visible by selecting Alt+F1). Select a flat view (eg active actions) then edit the filter for it. In the filter settings (also in the left-hand pane), the Sort button is under the "Group & Sort" heading. You're not clear on how you want the tasks sorted - do you want them to be sorted in the sequence they are entered in the outline, sorted in the order (by time) that you created them or do you want "total manual control over the order"? There's a sort option available for each of these:

  • You can have the "sort" option set to (none) to have the tasks in the same order as you enter them in the outline.
  • If you want to see them in the sequence (time) that you entered them, you can choose to sort tasks by "Created Date".
  • When you click the Sort button, you'll also find a checkbox for "Manual sorting" at the top of the pop-up window, so you can use them to customise the order you view them - that gives you "total manual control over the order".

I hope one or more of those options helps you.

Hi Stephane,

Thank you for your reply.  I am a very basic user of MLO and don't really need all the bells and whistles.  I don't use views.  Not sure what is meant by a flat list but I do use the default tree structure in the first tab of MLO.  I want to see my tasks always in the order i put them in.  So if I put in 3 tasks at different timings:

Task 1
Task 2
Task 3

and if I reorder them by using shift-alt-up/down-arrow keys on my PC to:

Task 2
Task 1
Task 3

then I always want to view them (on screen or in print) in that order until I change the order again by using the shift-alt-up/down keys.

So I need total manual control over the order.  I don't even need sorting - seldom, if ever, do I sort.  I think I may have created confusion by using the word "sort" in the title.  Apologies.  So what I really want is "consistent manual order".  This does not happen when I print.  The order changes.

I'll experiment with what you have written and see how it goes.

Many thanks.

Mohan

Hi Mohan

You are already using views. Maybe the panel which contains views is hidden. So that makes you think that you don't use them.
To show the panel, press Alt and F1 keys.
After that, look at it, and find the All Tasks view which contains the tasks in their true order.
When you create a new workspace, select this view again.

If you find that something is wrong even with the ALL Tasks view, maybe you have modified it, and it shows the wrong task order.
To discard the All tasks view changes do as displayed in the attached file.

Happy new year!
Andrew

Hello Andrew,

Thank you for note and attachment.  I do see “All Tasks” in my left panel and realize that I am using a default view.  I always work in All Tasks and it shows up automatically on top of the left panel when I start MLO.  I’ll keep checking in future to ensure I am in all tasks.

Thank you and happy new year to you too!

Mohan
