I don't know if this can be done since MLO's design and system hinges on the columns used to sort tasks but I thought I'd throw this request out there in case there is such a way to redesign MLO for better use of space. I use the split screen feature in Windows to work between two different apps or even three or four depending on what I'm doing. However, I can't do this with MLO at all because the tasks get cut short because all the columns are squeezed together when I lock the program to one side of my screen. I've seen quite a few productivity web apps do this wonderfully, saving a lot of space for me to do other things. It would be nice if there was some way to redesign MLO to save space but I completely understand if this isn't possible due to it's outline structure as MLO is, in my opinion, much more powerful than the web apps I've seen online.

Presently, I've set shortcuts to display right and left columns or not. I use the same as in Evernote = F10 for left and F11 for  right.
This way, when I split the screen, I switch off the columns to display only the task list.
I know it's just a workaround, but at least it does part of the job.

If you're using so many MLO columns wouldn't you be better off using a database e.g. MS Access?

Joel: two things to check:

1. Are you closing the left panel and the right panel using alt/f1 and alt/f2?

2. Did you try to right-click on the column header and unsekect columns for display?

I think I just have a lot of columns that I'm using. However, I've managed to rework MLO and use drag n' drop for some of my tasks that I didn't really need to use some status columns for like 'Importance' or 'Urgency'. I've managed to rework it in a way that works for me. Thanks Dwight.  :)
