We have 6 major tasks for which I have created a dashboard to display. Each of these major tasks is a view in the dashboard. Each task has hundreds of subtasks or subtasks of those subtasks. The dashboard creates a quick view of the major categories that we should be working by due date. We cannot find a way to have those subtasks re-sort when a new due date is added or modified. What we have to do is go to the main task, advanced, sort by due date and accept  it. We could not find a trigger that would fire on add or update of the due date. Does anyone have any ideas?

Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to apply permanent sorting to all levels in a hierarchical view. The sorting applied via Task > Advanced > Sort Subtasks is a one-time static sorting for that branch and does not automatically update when due dates change.

Automatic resorting of subtasks is only possible if the hierarchy is disabled for the view. This might be a helpful workaround for some use cases.

How do I disable hierarchy and what are the potential side effects?

To disable the hierarchy in MLO, open the Filter pane, and under General, set Show Hierarchy to No

To sort tasks by Due Date, click Sort (see the screenshot attached).

If you want to display tasks from a specific branch, you can use an Advanced filter to show only the tasks from that branch. For example, you can filter by TopParentProjectName.

The primary side effect of disabling the hierarchy is that the multi-level structure of tasks will no longer be visible. Subtasks and sub-subtasks will appear as a flat list, all at the same level, regardless of their parent-child relationships.
