In other task managers, there is calendaring, scheduling software along with task management capabilities.

I want to be able to look at a calendar, pick a date, and create a task list rapidly for that date (and create sub-tasks).

Is there any such option in MLO?

What is the best way to enter a series of separate line item tasks rapidly for a specific date?

And to have those tasks carry automatically forward to the next date if not completed and checked off ( I am thinking of functionality from the old Franklin Quest planner that would allow creation of a prioritized task list for a given day and carry forward uncompleted tasks and mark them in red lettering on the next or subsequent days).

Functionality is that I would pick a date in the future (next day or weeks, months away), and enter tasks for that date.
A month view would show me a scrolling index of tasks for that month or week if in week view.

Have you tried editing or creating views in the left hand pane? Clicking on filter (lowest option) gives you the option of setting an Advanced Filter which does flexible filtering on dates, among many other things.

Hope this helps

Views will let the original poster set up a way of viewing all tasks for a particular date, but I don't think there's a way of automatically setting a specific date for new entries. However, allowing MLO to parse your entries (search for "parse" in the manual) means you can quickly include a date when you type in a new entry. You can use -s and -d switches to set start and due dates, too (just don't put a space between the switch and the date).

Hope that helps.

Here is what I want to do:
 * create a list of tasks for a given date (quickly), without having to create a filter (view) for every day.

For example: I want to select Saturday November 4th, and start entering tasks for that day.  I want to be able to pick a day and rapidly enter tasks for a given day, line item after line item.

Then I want to be able to manage those tasks.  Any task that was not completed or checked off, gets moved to the next day, Sunday Nov 5th automatically.

So on Sunday Nov 5th, I see all the tasks I created for that day and in red lettering see tasks that were carried over.

To have to create a view for every day would be overwhelming.  I find that it is a basic feature of every planner.

1) to create tasks with dates:
the quickest method is to use parsing.
2) to view tasks. Create a view and group by date. Sorry, i know you don't like the idea of grouping, but it works well.
