I would like to make a feature request for the app. Under the syncing options, there is the MLO cloud and WIFi sync. Could an option for local file sync be added ?
This option is available in the desktop app, though listed under backups.
I have a folder on my phone which uses https://www.resilio.com/individuals/ to share files securely between some computers which I prefer to use instead of the MLO cloud.
I am aware I can use the backup option, however that is a manual process and I would like it to sync profiles to an arbitrary folder on my phone which is a sync folder.
It would be even better if we could do local folder syncs for all profiles at the same time, instead of only 1 profile at a time.
Also the backup option does not let someone set the folder in which the backup is stored, just automatically goes to the download folder, but my downloads folder is not a syncing folder.

I would support this, but please note that as written, it would be effective only where all devices synching this way are desktop systems. I would like to see a way to synch among multiple (more than 2) devices that does not involve having to trust a third party to securely store my data.

It would be even better if we could do local file syncs on a per-profile basis, but even if they are all in a single folder that would be fine.

The sync app I posted has an android version. And the syncs it does are self hosted. So that would not make it desktop only.
Please read the description of the app before making claims about it's capabilities. Though in the context of this request that is a moot point, as the functionality I am asking for would work with any folder sync.

You're criticising too quickly, Guru. My understanding is that the mobile versions of MLO all have a different file format from the desktop version. Hence, a straight file sync would not work between MLO files on the different platforms. A common file format would need to be created, so that the 3rd party app can synch the mobile devices with the desktop copies, or the current WiFi sync would need to be rewritten to enable a proper sync between multiple devices.

Having lost the ability to do any WiFi sync with my work laptop (due to some tightened security, I guess), I'm actually considering removing any very sensitive data (eg bank account refs) from my MLO files and starting to use cloud sync. However, I think that multiple WiFi sync, keyed to a file ID rather than a volatile device IP address, would be very useful for other users - so, like Dwight, I'd support the idea.

Steph is right the statement has nothing to do with the other you were comparing with, but the fact that MLO for Android would not be able to read the file you synced.
We did have that file sync option in older versions when people were syncing with a windows PDA but they don't make those any more.

One of the ways the developers are paid is by cloud sync. May not be much, but you are asking them to cut into that flow and also lose the historical knowledge of how many users there are.

Also, when it doesn't work, they will have the burden of tech support. In an area far outside of software development.

Maybe form an alliance with someone like Resilio, who does charge for their software?

Wa wa You are not making sense. I paid for the upgrades MLO does charge for. I am a user, but you claim they don't know I am just because cloud sync is not for me? I use WiFi sync which did not cost them as much to build or maintain.

They are losing more revenue every upgrade because of their poor decisions about what is important for the majority of potential users

You obviously do not own a business.

You proved yourself wrong on that one, LOL,
but seriously I will run my business the way I like to, you can run yours the way you think is best, and the ones running MLO will do what they like.

You are obviously the younger generation. I am what they call old school, and you might find that MLO is also old school.
