Does anyone know if Rich Text Format is going to be incorporated in MLO v.5 at all? I love MLO and I love many of it's features (Active Actions, Views, Folders...) but I'm at a point now where I really do need RTF and to be frank, it should have been incorporated by now as it's in a lot of personal task managers out there. I'm seeing it in open source and other task software but not seeing it in MLO. Does anyone know if it's in the works? There really isn't a lot of communication between development and the users like there ought to be so I'm starting to look around for something else that has that. However, if RTF is coming soon then I'll stay with MLO. Anyone out there know? If you know but that information is sensitive, could you send me a personal message letting me know? Thanks folks!

Hello Joel,

Thanks for your message. Yes I know this topic is one of the most popular feature request for MLO.

The topic is not easy though since RTF support would require support it on all MLO platforms in the same time. You cannot edit RTF notes in MLO-Windows and not able to edit them on Android or iPhone. Besides RTF is a complex format which supports attachments, pictures etc. The current MLO architecture cannot support this structure at the moment.

The other solution would be to support something like Markdown markups. It would be easier to implement and we could start support it on one platform first and then extend on other platform later. We are now considering this solution. Markdown is used in Trello for example and you can investigate how it works there.

So to answer your question I cannot guaranty that we implement an RTF support soon due to architecture difficulties but we are working in this direction considering different alternatives to implement it.

Thanks,
Andrey.

Hi, Andrey. Thanks for the response.

I really have no stake in how it’s implemented, only in how usable it is. I have two questions:

1. If I select a section of a document in MS Word that has formatting like bold, italics, larger or smaller typesize, indents, underline, etc and drop it into an MLO note that’s Markdown capable, will it preserve the formatting?

2. If I drag and drop an email from Outlook into MLO to create a new task, and the email has RTF or HTML formatted body text, how much of the email formatting will the task note preserve?

I'm glad to hear that RTF in notes is on the list.  It is something that I will definitely use.  For my own purposes, it's bolding and changing sizes, that I'll mostly use.
