I tried create a view only shows Folders.
But when I choose the view in  "Move to" windows, all the tasks still exist.

Thanks Michel. That's a great idea, to have a folders-only view for quickly moving tasks from my in-box.

I've just tried it and I can't replicate: Selecting the folders-only view in the "Move To" window works fine for me. In case it has an effect, I created the view by starting from my "All Tasks" view and setting up an Advanced filter with a single criterium: IsFolder = True.

Thank you for your reply, Stéphane

I did the same thing, create a new view, and setting up an Advanced filter with a single criterium: IsFolder = True.
The view works in "main list", but not in the  "Move To" window. (windows 10, version 5.1.1 portable)

I will try again using another pc later.

Tried it and it works~!

Set up with just 1 advance filter in the duplicated all view list to show only folders.
Press F3 to pop out the extra "move to" window.
In the main MLO window, set the view to All view.

Hey wait~!

You mentioned the ctrl-M move to pop up window. Not the one I tried. I am sorry for misunderstading. :-(

But you can still use the F3 pop up though, to easily move tasks to folders. :-/

I think I have ideas to make moving tasks to different tree/branch in MLO easier.

The process involve some MLO hotkeys setup and usage of AHK (autohotkey) software to bind all the hotkeys/shortcut into 1 single shortcut.

I have 2 ideas:
1. once user use the shortcut to cut a task, F3 pop up window appears which shows only folders. Once user paste the task, F3 window will close and show MLO main screen.
2. A shortcut to call F3 pop up windows with only folders, arranged side by side with MLO main windows, so you can easily move tasks by copy paste from main to F3 window.

I haven't really experiment the ideas physically yet but I have the process in my mind and I believe it is doable.
I will do physical experiment and share the result it if anyone is interested.

Thank you.

I did not know their are F3 for a new window, but I still feels  "Move to(ctrl - m)" window is easier :D

Did you try using the filter in ctrl-m window?

I also tried in another pc, not working either, the result is as follow image.

I'm not quite sure why that is happening for you, Michel. Just to confirm: the move function (for me the hotkey is Alt-Shift-M) displays the folder-only view perfectly in my copy of MLO. I'm using a beta of the portable version of MLO (but the fact that it's a beta should have no effect, as I don't think that Andrey has been doing anything to change the move functionality).

Maybe you should start by trying to download and run a fresh copy of the portable version, to see if the filtered move window works for you in that? Alternatively, you might need MLO support to take a look at your log files, to see if they can identify or replicate the problem.

Hi Steph,

Hmm.... I tried using ctrl+M in my beta version and it didn't work.

But, with the newly downloaded Public Portable version, it works. User just need to click the heading and change it to the view with folder.

Hi Michel,

Not sure why ours can't work. Anyway, just for fun, I created a shortcut similar to what ctrl+m can do.

Please see video → https://youtu.be/JghWKN5cELI

Here are the steps to set up and use it:
01. Download and install → https://autohotkey.com/download/
02. Load the mlo.ahk file I attached here.
03. in MLO, create the folder only view. remember to save the view
04. create a new workspace and rename it as FOLDER or any other name you like. not important, just for easy identification.
05. Set the folder only view to FOLDER workspace.
06. assign hotkey CTRL + ALT + 1 to the main workspace.
07. Assign hotkey CTRL + ALT + 2 to the FOLDER workspace.
Setup done.

To use it.
01. select a task or tasks.
02. CTRL + ALT + X to cut task(s), view will auto set to FOLDER view
03. choose which folder you wanna place your task(s), then
04. CTRL + ALT + V to paste.
05. MLO will ask you if you wanna paste the task(s) as sibling or child. choose whichever suitable.
06. After you have chosen, the view will switch back to main workspace.

Hope this is helpful and fun. Thank you

thank you Stéph
It fails with latest portable version as well(version 5.1.1 portable).
I just send an email to mlo team, I will update this thread when there are new progress.

thank you MOK Matsuru
thank you for your script, and the detail explanation, you even come with a video tutorial.
I think I will just using it before mlo team fix this issue.

Michel,

I think I understand the reason of the issue. When you change a view on a tab it is changed only for this tab until you save it.
If you want to use the changed view on other tabs or in "Move to " window you need to save it. Just find the button in the bottom of the filter settings on the left panel and click "Save"

Please let me know if it works for you now.

Andrey.

YES~! I confirmed that Ctrl+M is working as what Andrey said.
Just need to make sure the view is saved. Then, after ctrl+M pop up window, change the folder only view at the top bar.
