I really like MLO and I use it daily but there is some things that I miss though:
I would like to be able to use MLO for more note taking. Espesially when markdown for the note field on android gets supported. For now I can just give a task a context or a flag labeling it as a note but it will still be a task that is "clickable". making it a folder is the next better step but then it will get mixed up with other folders. This is mostly fixable with good filtering but in some views it will still be a problem.
I think it will add a lot more flexibility to be able to just give a folder (which is really just a task that is not clickable) the possibility to have different icons. Or perhaps even adding new type as "Note". I would still want to be able to have custom icons though :)
So this maybe turned out to a wish for two new functionalities... well well.

Hello Toms...

On the desktop version of MLO, you can put custom icons in the folder icon position based on whatever criteria you choose, using Automatic formatting rules (just make sure you have the rules in the right order, though). For other devices, yes, that would be a useful feature to be able to use the same automatic formatting rules.

Hi Toms..., Stéph

I would like to add that, by default, MLO comes with an autoformating rulle which displayes a note-icon for tasks with notes.
To see the icon just add the "icon" column to the view.
If you witsh the note-icon to replace the folder icon - just change the icon position from 2 to 0, as follows on this screenshot:

Hi,
Oh, I searched for this and did not find it in settings. That solves the need :)
Thank you!

Steph,

What does icon position do?  More exactly, I know that 0 places the icon in front of the task.  But what does icon position 1 and 2 do?

Take Care,

Hello Michael,

If you include the "Icons" column in your view, it can display up to three icons side-by-side (positions 1, 2 and 3). By default, the notes icon is at position 2 (the middle of the column) and link and reminder icons are at position 3 (the right hand side of the column). I put all my context icons at position 1, but you could choose to use those three positions for icons to display completely different information.

I've just spotted... there's also an icon position 4 (also in the Icons column) which defaults to being used by the "New" or sun icon to highlight new items created within the last day, though I think that option is usually unchecked in the list of Automatic formatting rules. I think I might start using that for some other kind of icon with some custom conditions of my own.

All the best,
Stéphane

Hi, with the nice dark theme, was thinking about having some colorful folder icons and saw this thread. Adding some I just made (downloaded from the web, resized and changed color. I am not a graphics person..) using  @Stéph's old instructions in the thread.

Thanks mj100. It's been a while since I've played around with design of any icons. Your folder colours (apart from one) work nicely with the dark theme.

Dear Tom and Andrei,

To add a item type as "Note/Tips" except for "Folder and checkbox",  is exactly what I want! Thank you! "Notion" is an interesting example for item varieties.

Would you make the context colorful? Thank you!
