Dear all:

Most of my time with MLO was on Win 7, which was great. I switched to and used Win 8 for a short period of time, and now I am using Win 8.1. My MLO is 4.1.0 Professional Edition.

I am unable to add tasks or subtasks in my MLO data file. I encountered the same issue on Win 7, and resolved it by Save As or Export and Import (sorry, cannot remember).

Now I have tried the same method to resolve the problem and failed. I have also tried Run the program as Administrator and Compatibility Mode of Win 7&8. None worked. I am really frustrated now as my MLO file contains a lot of my career and personal planning data.

Would greatly appreciate your help!

What happens, specifically? I'm successfully running on 8.1 but don't think I did anything special. I'm leaving on travel soon but hopefully someone has ideas. It's definitely possible!

Couldn't you just copy the task to a fresh new file and profile ?

I didn't have any issues going to Windows 8.1, either.  Are you able to see the existing tasks?

Regards -

Hello Alan,

Have you tried it with a new MLO file - just set up a test file and try synching that. If you can add tasks to it, then the problem isn't Windows 8.1.  It could then be a problem with a corruption in your MLO file.  That happened to me once - I was able to spot the corruption by opening the .xml file in another app (can't remember whether it was notepad, Word or something else) and looking for where the pattern of items parameters goes wrong.

Another way to look for and solve a corruption would be to copy sections of your MLO file into a fresh file and see when the problem with adding items comes back.  You can narrow it down to one project or a single item with the problem and then you'll have recovered almost all of your file in the new MLO outline.

Hope that helps,
Stéphane

You say that you encountered the same problem with win 7 and later with win 8.
Maybe the problem appears due to a conflict with some software which you install like antivirus, or some windows optimisation software.

If your file is located in a cloud storage like Dropbox, try to move it to another location. Maybe Dropbox is blocking your for during sync.

Also maybe you run by mistake more than one instance of mlo that uses the same file. Check the task manager next time when the error appears.

Another idea, maybe you run mlo in a trial mode. Check your licence.
