ugh, I have trusted MLO expicitly to keep track of my life.  Apparently I have very simple needs as most of the issues that get posted on here just are not issues at all for me.  But as of last night I suddenly realize some frustration.  Now in teh grand scheme of things even in my world its a small problem, but it is sypmatic of a larger concern.

In my business I need specialty refererence information that is subscription based.  Due to the size of the corporation I work for we usually contract for this information using multi year deals, sometimes 3 sometimes 5 but really can probably be any number of years depending on factors at the time of negotiations.  I'm on the ad hoc commitee for specifications of what I need to use but the negotiation of the contract, signing, etc is all handled by corporate and legal.

I never receive the final contract, just the length of it.

it usually takes 6 months to spec and negotiate and not having it in place before the expiration date casues issues.  The last time I relied on corporate to keep track and it expired.  So I figured this time I would set up a task, set in the future to remind me 6 month ahead of time to contact corporate to set things in motion and moved on with life.

last night my Android phone gives me a reminder that the contract expires jan 25 2014.

for some reason this does not sit right with me.  My perception is its too soon but maybe not time flies

today at work on my desktop I get no such reminder and decide to check.  my desktop says the reminder starts in 2016 and the contract runs out in 2017

omg!   how many of my future tasks are all jazzed up now due date wise becasue of the syncing of the two platforms?

now all of a sudden all the trust I once had is gone!

what do I do now?

Daniel, please check, is this a typo or do you literally mean that MLO/Android gave you a reminder in June 2014 for something supposedly happening 5 months ago in January 2014?

Please look on your phone and desktop at this task and tell us the start date, due date, reminder date and last modified date on each system. Thanks.

based on the note section of the task I did actually take the time to spell  some things out such as start preparing for contract as it runs out 26jan2015.

so based on that note my phone is absolutely right and could possibly have sent me a reminder like it was supposed to but the actual start and due dates have been changed and are incorrect now

and consequently the reminder on the desktop which is set is certainly incorrect

and the stating modified 05/22/2014 i would not possibly have a reason to have looked at this task a couple weeks ago let alone modify anything about it.  so I can assume that the 22nd is when the dates got all jazzed up but yet only partially synced everything with my phone?  why wouldn't the cloud have totally overwritten my phone on the 22nd then including the reminder.  I'm thankful it didn't actually because my phone tried to get it right but something overwrote my dates.........

I may be missing something - the only difference I see is the reminder date.

Hi, Elizabeth. If I understand correctly, I think Daniel is telling us that the start and due dates in the phone and desktop versions of MLO match each other, but that they are incorrect in both places. I believe that he is indicating that the start and due dates were set correctly and that at some recent point, the start and due dates on both mobile and desktop platforms were pushed into the future (postponed) by a little under 28 months. Furthermore, Daniel appears to be suggesting that the dates were changed in May (based on the modified date) but that the reminder alarm went off as originally scheduled.

I am not a big user of reminders but I’m guessing that if the reminder throws an alert on mobile and desktop, and if the reminder gets a response on mobile but not desktiop, the task information might show a reminder still set on desktop but cleared on mobile. Would a sync reinstate the mobile reminder? I don’t know.

So, let’s talk about ways that the task could be postponed 28 months. I can think of three things to check:

First, it a repeating task or project gets completed and a new occurrence is generated, all subtasks of the recurring item get regenerated as well, and the adjustment to the recurring item’s dates are inherited by the subtasks. So Daniel should examine the parent of his task to see if it has a defined recurrence. And the grandparent. And so on until the root of the hierarchy is reached.

Second, I would suggest setting a custom view to show all tasks that were modified the same dfay (or the same week, or month) as the task in question – any other task modified shortly before or shortly after has a chance of being involved.

Third, I have had situations like this where the task in question actually appears in my hierarchy twice, one correct and one incorrect. I would suggest searching for the task name and seeing if there’s more than one match.
