hello :-)

i'm a big fan of MLO, but one thing i find lacking is integration in
google calendar (i did a search but didn't see much on that subject).
right now, when i enter a new task in MLO, i also enter it separately
on my google calendar, where i have a better weekly overview. is there
any demand for this, or how do other people solve it?

thanks
Tobias

Actually, I am a big fan of using rainlendar on the Windows backdrop.  It can sync with google calendar and place a calendar on the desktop with a schedule of the next X days events.

It is nice to have an MLO window of tasks with my schedule sitting next to that window in the desktop background.  I really like having those two separate tools working together.

In fact I bought my netbook to house those two apps plus dokuwiki for my procedures.   Finally moved to the modern age and gave up my paper calendar and paper notebook.  :)

MLO can sync with MS Outlook. There are products that sync Outlook
with Google Calendar. It might work, but I haven't tried it.

I use MLO hard at home and work on laptops. Currently my problem is access to the list of tasks in the way and from the Internet. Synchronization of Outlook does not satisfy this condition. Again, I vote with both hands for direct syncing with Google Calendar.

Could you guys also explain this one a little better?  Are you talking about syncing to the calendar or syncing to the new tasks feature of Google calendar?

I meant syncing Outlook Tasks to the Tasks feature of google calendar.

I've been using an eval copy of a 3rd party product, CompanionLink,
that does fine with Contacts and Calendar, but tasks don't work. I
have an open issue with tech support about it.

I've since learned that Google itself has a free outlook sync tool. I
will attempt to play with it and report back over the coming week.

Ah, thanks.  Here's the catch for me:
Google Calendar Sync will only sync events from your primary Google Calendar and your default Microsoft Outlook calendar at this time. If you've scheduled events on a secondary calendar in Google Calendar that you'd like to sync with your Microsoft Outlook Calendar, you can either move the event to your primary calendar or export your entire secondary calendar and import the events to your primary calendar.
I have a lot of secondary calendars, which I want to map to categories in Outlook, and CompanionLink does this. I have it working well for Appointments and semi-well for contacts (I still have an issue with it messing up middle names which makes it so my Droid doesn't recognize my Facebook contacts, but it's pretty minor in the scheme of things).

To get this back to MLO - I'm trying out different ways of getting CompanionLink to work for tasks.   I'd be happy to brainstorm ways to get CompanionLink to work better for tasks.  My current solution - I use both a restricted view in MLO to only export tasks I'd like to have while mobile (10-20).  Next, I use MLO's ability to map contexts down to a limited number of outlook categories.  Then, I have a google calendar for each of those categories so they are mapped to the correct calendar.  Lastly, I'm having to manually sync and click "purge tasks in google on next sync" in order to work around a very annoying (IMO) defect in CompanionLink.

What you describe is way too complicated for me. My conclusion is that
there is no good, clean, simple way to sync google tasks with
outlook.

Big bump for this. Having MLO list tasks on a calendar that are due
on a particular date without jumping through hoops would be nice. A
sync with an .ics file via web DAV would be nice as well.

I too tried gSyncIt. It seems to work fine, so I purchased a license.
At $15, it's quite reasonable. Here's the link, in case anyone else is
interested.

See http://blog.mylifeorganized.net/2014/12/the-calendar-view-in-MyLifeOrganized-for-ios.html for information about calendar integration in the new iPhone/iPad version of MLO. The developers have announced that they are now building an Android release, and it seems likely that some similar calendar integration will be a part of that release, but so far there are no details or schedules.

MLO developers have announced a new version of MLO for Android, scheduled for November release. There has been some discussion of a calendar interface, and I am 99% certain that they have committed to provide such an interface. I have unfortunately lost track of ehether this particular enhancement has been committed for inclusion in the November release.

There are also rumors of a future Windows release. I do not believe that there is any timeframe or even a committment thatthere will be a new release at all and i am very confident that there has not yet been any committment of the features to be included.

Thanks Dwight.

Fwiw, I now find myself reaching for a calendar for the following:
1. Fixed external appointments (no surprise there!)
2. Goals (medium term - need both Start and End Dates)
3. Contexts (short term - within next week)

e.g. I have a whole bunch of 'personal admin' stuff I need to get on top of to be done around the home and I want to schedule 2 hours for it all tomorrow morning.

And then I have a major project area I want to slot in for another 4 hours tomorrow after noon.

Currently I've started putting all 3 of these things into my Outlook Calendar...   It does seem messy to have to enter things twice. But at least I can get an visual overview of the "Big Rocks" happening my next few days. And this I find motivating.

Todoist has an ICS URL you can subscribe to. Doit used to but now has direct integration. Zendone has it, Remember The Milk, Trello, Wrike, etc, etc, etc........

MLO is an island of data and the only thing that has me bouncing around trying other solutions. If I get this, I'll be a lifetime user!

Hi all.
On Facebook board I have posted a proposal of HOW it could be made. If you like you can read my long post that i copy here below, where I also report some remarks by Andrey (MLO) and Rick Kennedy. What do you think about?

---------------------------------FACEBOOK POSTS-------------------

Copied from Facebook proposals:
-------------------
Roberto Penzo 23 Dec 2016 : WHAT I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO GET:
1 - please, please...bidirectional sync with Google Calendar as fully as possible;
2 - manual sort views (one at least) sync thru al the devices.
-------------------
MyLifeOrganized - MLO Thanks Roberto.
1 - how do you see this sync? MLO stores tasks and Calendar events. Do you want *all* mlo tasks with dates to be moved to the calendar and synced? I guess there would be a mess if we do it. How do you see it?
Andrey.
-------------------
Roberto Penzo:  About the current MLO calendar, let me first say which would be for me the best MLO-calendar way of integration.

TARGET: the goal for me is a way to drag & drop a task from a tasklist and place it on a free slot of a Google calendar view already populated with the Google events of my life.
This is a very intuitive and way to Get Things Done: every time I worked in that way, using for instance the Android app IsoTimer to merge events and tasks on a visual calendar, I experimented a period of extra personal productivity. But IsoTimer is not as performing as MLO!

How to implement this? Only a proposal:

----PLAN VIEW----
Create a "PLAN VIEW" (at least on MLO Desktop, I do not think that a smartphone has the power to do this in a very useable way, hope to be wrong...):
- ZONE 1 (top of the screen): Google Calendar view. Shows the events of the Google Calendar in a week or day table: days as columns, hours of the day as rows, rectangles as events, with the width proportional to the duration of the event. This is very important, as it lets you to find the free time slots where to put the tasks (see below, ZONE 2). Ability to filter the events by "calendar layers" (in Google Calendar you can create several different "calendars" all overlapped as different layers - every event stays on only one calendar layer).
- ZONE 2 (bottom of the screen): MLO task list (with ability to filter by context or flags...).
- PLANNING FEATURES: When I drag and drop a task, a event is created on the Google Calendar cloud database, with date/start time of the drop position.

DETAILS:
1 - while dragging the task, a dialog window will ask on which "calendar layer" to create the corresponding event on Google Calendar database (default: the last one used).
2 - the task will get a default duration (or a dialog box could propose it), but a way to shorten or lengthen it is needed (stretch the lower edge of the rectangle...).
3 - the task on MLO will get a (new) Context with the name of the selected "calendar Layer".
4 - the sync will be bidirectional for all the "calendar layers" of Google Calendar database. "calendar layer <-> Context. Eventually a enable sync table would be useful to choose which calendar layers to consider on sync.
5 - if I take off a Context from a task in MLO, it will be deleted on the corresponding "calendar layer" on Google Calendar (if sync enabled for this layer).
6 - If I delete a event from a "calendar layer", the corresponding task will loose the Context of that calendar layer.
7 - TOP OF THE TOPS: ability to drag and drop and edit a event on the ZONE 1 (Google Calendar). Human-made daily re-planning!
8 - Events from recurring tasks or tasks from recurring events: a very complicated matter. Too long to discuss, not for now.

MY FEEDBACK ON CURRENT MLO CALENDAR VIEW (only on MLO Android, named TODAY, not on MLO Windiws).
1 - the visual plan (the zone just below the plot) shows only a single day in a single row, so no room for text inside the boxes representing the events, expecially for short events.
2 - if you touch a box you do not get the corresponding event selected. Only the opposite works: event -> box, and only one at a time.
3 - You can not create any event from a task, so not possible to made-up a reliable plan map of the day or the week.
4 - The plot only gives you an idea of how many tasks are placed on that day. This space could be used to create a daily or weekly calendar table view of the events similar to Google Calendar.

Sorry for the long analysis. Hope it is clear.

MyLifeOrganized - MLO
MyLifeOrganized - MLO Roberto Penzo Thank you!

Andrey.
-------------------
Rick Kennedy  30 Dec 2016: You've thought more about the details than I have. From a user perspective, I just want to drag a task to the calendar. If I drag it to an empty space, it creates a (linked?) calendar entry, and if I drag it to an existing calendar entry, it "assigns" the task to that event, tracks and displays the total number and duration of tasks assigned to that event, and stops me when the event fills up. The event then becomes a "container" for an arbitrary number of tasks that I assign to it. I have seen the first part of this capability before (Might have been Pocket Informant on my iPad, or maybe it was a Franklin planner app on my old tablet PC), but I have never seen the second capability anywhere. Would be great, though.

Roberto Penzo The "container" is a new concept for me. It would be nice too. Thank you.

Hello,

I would like to go farther with google calendar integration.

Not just a display matter, but use appointments as elements of MLO:

- an appointment being a due date for any task (moving an appointment will automatically change the due date of a linked task, deleting the appointment make the task useless or orphaned, needing review)

- an appointment being a context (considered “open” during the appointment, particularly usefull for weekly schedules)

- an appointment being a project (with its subtasks if relevant : stuff to do to prepare the meeting)

- etc.

I would like to see this too but for me, it would have to be 2-way integration and I don't see that happening with MLO. Wishful thinking.  Todoist is in the process of integrating it and although a move to Todoist would be a hard move, I'm going to look at how it's done. At this point, I need to be able to sync some tasks to my calendar. Need to see both my time-block schedule and some, (not all) tasks throughout the day. For my projects, I would just schedule those and then go to my task list manager for specific tasks.

I absolutely agree. Today the time management for the tasks cannot miss a visual calendar. My proposal, two posts back, is a two-way proposal. It is a quite complete and easy from the user.
