I am having issues with active actions. I have a few projects with no suntans. They are marked as not started but show up in my active action list. I have set the view to active and looked at available. They keep showing up. I want my not started projects to not show up as a active task.

Does anyone know what is going on here?

Actually, this is how MLO works which really, active actions shouldn't show for inactive projects. I came upon the same thing and this is something that needs to be changed. That is, when a person makes a project inactive by selecting "Not Started" in the Project properties box, the active actions for that project should be hidden in the Active Actions list. Doesn't make sense why we should have to both hide the project and mark it "Not Started/In Progres". This would also apply to the "Suspended" status. If it's suspended then the active tasks should be hidden.

Hi, Joel, Edward.

A great thing about MLO is that it has so many ways of being customized. Don't want active tasks in your ACTIVE view if they are in an inactive project? Edit the view and add the following to the Advanced Filter for your ACTIVE view

In case you cannot see the screenshot, it shows ((ProjectStatus <> NotStarted) AND (ProjectStatus <> Suspended))

Then save the view definition. Be sure to save your changes by clicking "save view as" at the bottom of the view definition. As always it would be prudent to save it under a new name to reduce confusion and to enable fallback if you need it.

If you know how to use advanced filtering you should find this pretty fast and easy. If you need a tutorial on advance filtering, let me know.

I agree with you. The parameters are all independent and have to be set individually, which means that MLO needs a lot of mouse clicks / taps to adjust the status of a task or project. I'd much rather see tasks' statuses and times being dependent on the status of their project.

However, other people like to be able to make tasks active independently of their projects, so that they can have preparatory tasks for projects which haven't started yet. These differences in the way different users organise themselves and view the relationships between tasks, projects and folders mean that it would be very hard to get the functionality changed.

As Dwight says, though, there's almost always a way to set up advanced filter rules to customise your view into the task list. The "ProjectStatus" parameter in the advanced filter looks at the status of the parent project. I was going to suggest using "ProjectStatus="In Progress"" as the rule, but it depends on exactly what criteria you want for your active tasks.

Regards,
Stéphane
