Hey has anyone studied the MOKE effect in Ferromagnetic thin films using mumax.

Hi,

Unfortunately, mumax does not have an extension to simulate the optical parts needed for MOKE, it is just for the magnetics. You can use it to generate magnetic textures that can be analyzed in other software, however. Something like Comsol might be more suited for the optical calculations.

Hello,
Thanks for the reply.
Sorry to bother you again.
But is there any process so that I can import the magnetic simulation from mumax to comsol for optical calculation.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I am not aware of an existing tool that can do this. But it should be pretty straightforward to do using something like Matlab/Python, as long as in Comsol you enforce a uniform grid/mesh that matches the geometry in mumax. Basically it will be like reading from one text file (you can find discussions on this board talking about how to work with OVFs. They are pretty straightforward), converting the magnetization data to the appropriate permittivity tensor value for each cell, and then writing to another text file, while matching the formatting requirements. I don't use Comsol much myself so I can't give too many more details.

Best,
Josh L.
