Hello All, Glenn here your new member of the club this year. I was wondering who else is planning on skiing at this event? Perhaps I will get a chance to meet some new members and have a fun day up on the mountain?

Hi Glenn,

Great question about the Ski The Glade Trail Day.  I don't know who else from our club intends to participate, but here are a few things I do know:

1.  Every year, this event gets sold out.  It is usually limited to 75 people. But this year, it is limited to just 60 people.  So, it will definitely fill up soon.  If you want to participate, please call the Mt. Hood Museum & Cultural center ASAP to buy a ticket and reserve your spot.  Call:
503-272-3301 Wednesday - Sunday, 9 am - 4 pm. Their offcie is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

2.  Who will participate?  I don't know. In some years, several of our club members have participated, many even in multiple years.  But there have also been some years with no Mt. High members at all.  For now, I know of just 2 of our members who are definitely participating.  I am one of them.  But, in addition to these 2, I have also seen a surge of interest expressed by people just like you.  So, I believe that there will be more Mountain High members participating this year.

3.  Who else will be there?  Many wonderful people you should meet.  This event is a great opportunity to get to know some famous locals.
First and foremost, everyone will meet Lloyd Musser, the curator of the Museum and also the main organizer of the Glade Trail Day.  Lloyd is a very likeable man, and he has a lot of knowledge about the history of Mt. Hood. You should definitely get to know him.
Then there will be lots of wonderful ski patrollers there helping out with this event and skiing with us.  Among them is Buzz Bowman, the oldest ski patroller on the mountain.  The "Buzz Cut" trail at Timberline is named after him.
And then there are some well known people locally that are not among us any more, having passed away.  Among them are Dale Crockatt and
Lee Perry. Each of them has a rich story behind them.  Sorry you missed them.

4.  Guides.  Each of the 3 buses will have its own guide.  I have been asked to be one of the ski guides this year.  Our main task is to show everyone how to get to the Glade Trail without having to climb up and without using any of Timberline's lifts.  Note that we don't need a Timberline lift ticket because we will not be using any of them.  We'll just pass through the Timberline ski area and then leave it shortly after we hit the Glade Trail.

5.  Note that the cost of participating is lower for those who are members of the Mt. Hood Museum and Cultural Center.  If you are not already a member, the slightly higher cost of participating in the Glade Trail Day includes a one year membership.  This membership also entitles you to a 10% discount on anything sold at the Museum's store, which includes, maps, books, souvenirs, posters, some select CDs, and more.

I do hope that more of our club members will participate this year.  And I hope they will respond to your question in this Forum.  But, even without them, you'll get to meet lots of other interesting people.

Oops!  My most humble apologies to Lisa Miller!

How could I have possible forgotten to mention her among Mt. High club members participating in the Glade Trail Day on March 5 this year???   Lisa has been participating in this event from when it first started many years ago.  She is the event's official photographer.  And she is a Mountain High member.  And she is an excellent skier.

If you see a woman with a camera and mighty powerful zoom lens laying on the snow and taking pictures of people skiing toward her, make sure to not run over her, and smile for the camera!!!
