Organized Chaos is planning to do this again this year. It was really fun last year.

That is great to hear, I hope a few more boats can make it out. A good opportunity to race through the night and get a feel for it.

Hello,

I plan on doing the overnight race on Crocodile. The weather forecast for Saturday and Sunday is for light (very) winds all day. I don't know if racing 65 miles will be possible. Perhaps just going to Mattituck and back, or to Falkner island and back (both around 45nm) would be a better choice?

Is a shorter course possible?

Thanks,
Barry

The race is a 65 mile course with no alternative course. Its intended to prepare a boat and crew for a race such as the AlIR. There is not alternative or shortened course for those races. You just race in the conditions you get.

Thank You,

Hello again,

Who plans on racing tomorrow in the overnight race? I believe that Organized Chaos and Crocodile are in. Anyone else?

Thanks,
Barry

Just so you know, the sailing association in the early years had a 100 mile race each year with a large number of participants -- around 10 to 15. It went from Mt. Sinai to R32A off Stanford to Faulkner Island and back. Grueling. One year we had an ugly protest because the winner rounded the wrong mark down near Stanford, cutting several miles off the course, and lied about it.

Don interesting, I am always concerned about the marks on these type of races.
Yes , one really needs to check and recheck that the buoy being rounded is the correct one especially at night . There are multiple marks not far from the correct marks in this race including near Mattituck and Faulkner island . Probably a good idea to have multiple crew members verify the course and marks so mistakes aren’t made .

Today is the 65 mile over night race. Good luck to any racers heading out. I will be watching from work. 😒 Conditions look light from the east, similar to last year's race.
