FYI

This is the storm trisail clubs 2026 racing schedule but also the hands-on safety at sea course is on May 16 this year at Fort Schuyler. This is a required course for many of the local long distance races and the Newport to Bermuda races but a great course to take if anyone has the time to do so.

Storm Trysail Club Events

Below is a preview of the upcoming season. Visit each event page for the Notice of Race, entry details, news, and registration/invitation links.

Handicap Race Management Webinar

March 24 | Online

The Storm Trysail Club, in partnership with US Sailing and ORC, will host a Race Management Webinar focused on best practices for handicap racing.

This one-hour session will cover course selection, scoring options, race management techniques, and race administration guidance for organizers and race committees. Owners and sailors alike are welcome to join to learn more about the race management and ratings.

Hands-On Safety at Sea Seminar

May 18 | SUNY Maritime

Storm Trysail Club continues to support Safety at Sea training and offshore education initiatives that help prepare sailors for offshore passages and races. It is the only hands-on safety-at-sea program in the Northeast with on-the-water practice.

Block Island Race

May 22 | Stamford, CT

The 79th annual Storm Trysail Club Block Island Race continues to be one of the premier offshore races in the Northeast, offering multiple course options for a wide range of boats and crews and a great practice for those taking on the Newport Bermuda Race in June.

New this year: continued expansion of ORC scoring options and strong participation expected across both fully crewed and double-handed divisions. An amendment to the NOR has been posted, changing the finish line to accommodate deeper draft boats.

Intercollegiate Offshore Regattas (IOR)

The Storm Trysail Club’s Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta Series (IORS) continues its national growth in 2026 with three premier events spanning the country — and a new trophy, The Callisto Cup, recognizing the top collegiate offshore sailing program of the year.

New this year: With the expansion of regions and interest, all teams must request an invite.  We are also exploring a mix of distance and buoy races to provide a full experience for these young sailors.

Partner Events

Storm Trysail Club is proud to partner with leading yacht clubs and organizers to support several offshore and distance races throughout the season. These events reflect the Club’s commitment to competitive offshore sailing, seamanship, and collaboration across the sailing community.

Mills Trophy Race

June 5 | Lake Erie

Co-organized with Toledo Yacht Club, the Mills Trophy Race is one of the premier offshore races on the Great Lakes. First started in 1981, the June race brings together top regional programs for a challenging distance race on Lake Erie.

New this year: 2026 Honorary Chairman is Mr. Tim Yanda of Edgewater Yacht Club and Storm Trysail Club's Eastern Great Lakes Station Captain.

The Salty 100 & Tower Race

July 9–11 | Buzzards Bay

Hosted with Beverly Yacht Club, this unique event features both the Tower Race and the Salty 100, offering offshore racers 2 options for distance courses (think marathon or half-marathon) and an excellent mid-season challenge in the waters of Buzzards Bay or a great warm-up for next year’s Marion Bermuda Race.

New this year: This is the first year Storm Trysail Club has teamed up with BYC to support with race management, and we are thrilled to be a part of it.

Ted Hood Regatta

August 15–16 | Eastern Yacht Club

Hosted at Eastern Yacht Club, the Ted Hood Regatta honors one of Storm Trysail Club’s own and one of sailing’s most respected innovators while bringing together competitive handicap and one-design fleets for a weekend of racing on Massachusetts Bay.

Shearwater Regatta

September 19–20 | Long Island Sound

Co-hosted with Riverside Yacht Club, the Shearwater Regatta offers two days of competitive racing on Long Island Sound and continues to attract strong ORC and PHRF fleets from across the region.

New this year: Day 1 will feature traditional windward/leeward courses for all fleets. Day 2 introduces a unique “3-in-1” race format, where a single start launches three scoring opportunities: Race 1: A windward/leeward course finishing through a start/finish gate. Race 2: Immediately continues into a coastal race with a separate finish. Race 3: Scored as the combined corrected elapsed time of Races 1 and 2

Wirth M. Munroe Ocean Race

December 4 | Miami to Palm Beach, Florida

Co-hosted with Sailfish Club and part of the SORC Islands in the Stream Series, the race sends competitors up Florida’s southeast coast, challenging crews with the Gulf Stream and early winter fronts. The event is affectionately known as the “Race to the Buffet,” thanks to the legendary post-race seafood dinner awaiting sailors in Palm Beach.

Whether you are racing offshore, organizing events, or supporting the next generation of sailors, 2026 promises to be another outstanding year for the Storm Trysail Club community.

This is a great course!  I'd recommend anyone to take it, racer or cruiser.
