Login error message

Hi Friends - I’ve pretty much retired from web work, but occasionally help out friends with their sites. I have one here that is not allowing us access to the dashboard and we get this message at the top. 

I’m open to ideas as I haven’t encountered this before. I did check the file and can’t find any of the mentioned characters or any spaces in the php admin table. The site resides in a subdirectory right now.

Do you have access to the file system?  If you do, i would start by renaming the plugins directory.  I the problem is a plugin, once the directory for that plugin is renamed, WP will deactivate the plugin. And the dashboard should work.

But i am assuming that you have done a hard refresh in the browser.
