Pro bono work for non-profits

Hi everyone,

I am a recently semi-retired web dev. I am committed to support local or state-wide or national non-profits in need of a professional website. If you have an inquiry for a website but the organization has not the financial means  I am happy to evaluate the inquiry. I may build a WordPress site pro bono for them.

Hello Werner.

My wife belongs to the Vine Arts Center, a cooperative Art Gallery in Minneapolis.

I help out by maintaining the website. I am a retired Math teacher. I am a self-taught tech person. I have some understanding of web building but my knowledge is not deep.

The Gallery paid a designer to redo their site about 3 years ago. The designer used Wix. Now, for a couple of reasons, we would like to get away from Wix. I've done a little research and it seems like WordPress is a good alternative.

Would you be willing to help me convert the site to WordPress?

Hi Seth,

I am happy to look into it. Wordpress may be a good way to go but you should consider the upkeep required. WP is a target of malicious bots and hackers in general as it is used for millions of websites. It requires constant updates and secure hosting.

Often it is easier for an organization with limited technical talent to use something like Squarespace. They are very safe and provide templates for almost anything.
