Some of you may remember me from here 10 years ago, or from old meetups at Nerdery. At that time I was primarily a white label developer for a couple agencies (One was Ekcetera, which I believe I was introduced to here). I quit freelancing to raise tiny children, but now that my youngest is 10, I'm looking to finally be able to take on some work again.
I haven't been entirely out of the WordPress loop in the last 10 years (pun intended), I've been working as a senior software engineer at SmugMug/Flickr, and I've kept up on everything WordPress through maintaining a WooCommerce site for my husband's business and some of the sites that I had worked on prior to having kids. SmugMug recently implemented a 4-day-workweek too (yay!), so I now have a bit more spare time. Plus my girls play hockey and keep breaking hockey sticks. It's expensive.
Does anyone have any good resources for breaking back into freelance work? (I live in Rochester so I do plan to attend meetups in the twin cities if my schedule allows). I know UpWork exists, but I'm hesitant to compete on gig sites...they seem like a scam and potentially giant waste of time. Any others I should consider?
If you've made it this far, thanks! It's nice to meet you!
