I came up with the idea of creating  a monophonic hybrid (digital mozzi synths and end envelopes / Analogue filter and vca) synth.

But honestly i dont know much about  electronics.

I was thinking of using a rpi pico, a few DACS (i have a  bunch of mcp4822s) and incorporating a k35 clone filter which can be found on the internet.

my goal is to replicate the simplicity of the layout found in the synth part of my beloved korg monotribe.

But beyond this point im kinda lost because i said i dont really know much about electronics.

I asked chatgpt and it said i would need level matching and vcas.

but i dont know whats the simplest way to implement those.

so basically this is a request for any advice you can give me.

i intend on open sourcing the thing once it's finished, and i will make of the most readily available components and use through hole isntead of smt to make it the easiest for new guys to cant afford store bought synths to build their own.

thank you very much in advance.

Hi,

I think the easiest to get started is to familiarize you with Mozzi and synthesis principles. Get a few examples working, try to change them slightly to get something different, then start hooking up some buttons/potentiometers to change the synthesis parameters.

I would not go in that direction, I doubt that there is enough code online for chatgpt to give accurate answers.

Hope this helps, don't hesitate to get in touch!

Have you looked at Hagiwo's site:

Lots of examples including Mozzi oscillators and several filters.  There isn't a specific one for the Raspberry Pico, but there's an oscillator using the smaller Seeed XAIO RP2040.
He uses stripboard and wire, so you don't need to buy or  make any circuit boards.

Is it possible to get an envelope signal out of Mozzi as well as audio?  Is there an envelope signal variable in Mozzi which could be output from another PWM pin?

Also if you are just getting into electronics and audio Nic Collins "Handmade Electronic Music" is a good starting point.

It is possible to output PWM, but it might not be perfectly in sync… I would probably output the enveloppe on another audio channel (using stereo: one channel for the audio, one for the enveloppe).

Best,
