Hello all,
To better understand detection probabilities around two Motus towers set up by Audubon Canyon Ranch on Tomales Bay in Marin County, California, we carried tags on drones and put together the short report attached here. Of course, we expect signals from a tag attached to a drone won't be perfectly representative of a tagged animal, but feel it is an exercise worth sharing with anyone interested in developing protocol for testing towers.
We have talked with several other Motus researchers in California and the west about ways we might standardize manageable testing protocols across stations likely to detect species associated with a few projects. We would be interested to hear about how other researches have managed testing the system, so please feel free to use this thread as a place to contribute your thoughts and experiences on the subject. Thanks!
