Improving and extending the translation of the MSC Guide into other languages

Hi all

Some of you might not know about the translations that have been completed, underway or promised

• Here are some of the translations completed to date
  • French: With thanks to Lauren Naville <d...@drylands-group.org>, working with the Drylands Coordination Group.
  • Spanish: With thanks to Pablo Rodríguez Bilella  for the 2011 update/revised version
  • Arabic: With thanks to Awny Morsy <awny...@live.com>
  • Hindi: Status of this version needs to be clarified. Hindi speakers, could you help me?
  • Sinhala: With thanks to Arunasalam Vaithialingam <sp...@cha.lk>
  • Tamil: With thanks to Arunasalam Vaithialingam <sp...@cha.lk>
  •  Japanese: With thanks to Hiroshi Tanaka <nepal...@gmail.com>and his team of volunteers
• Other translations underway
  • Chinese:  Yao Lu <china...@yahoo.com> is currently working on it.
  • Italian: Maria Fabiani <in...@mariafabiani.eu> is currently working on it
  • Portuguese: Orlando José Leite de Castro <ojca...@gmail.com> is currently working on it
• Other translations that have been considered, but we have no news on
  • Malayam: Shaju Jospeh <sha...@rediffmail.com>  has expressed interest
  • Urdu: Ehtisham ul Hasan (eha...@savethechildren.pk) has expressed interest
  • Swahili: Kirogo Mwangi <kmw...@path.org> has expressed interest
  • Russian: Alexander Karpov <Alexande...@ecom-info.spb.ru> has expressed interest

Jess Dart and I would be very interested to hear from anyone as follows:

1. Who is listed above and can tells us about further progress made, or plans to do so

2. Who would be happy to volunteer as a "proof reader" of an existing translation in any language to identify if and how the translation could be improved

3. Who is interested to translate the MSC guide into any other languages

4. Who might be able to help secure funding for new translations, and quality checking of new and exisiting translations.

Dear Rick,

Many thanks for this!

From your list, I have not seen Indonesian language is mentioned.

If this is the case, ResultsinHealth (RiH) is willing to translate the MSC guide into Indonesian.

We will will work with young Indonesian (MEL) professionals in Indonesia and the Netherlands for this task.

In addition, RiH can also help in exploring other languages to translate the guide in the countries where we work.

I am interested to translate it into Sindhi. And also can provide support for proofreading of Urdu version. If Ehtisham ul Hasan is not able to spare time, I can also translate it into Urdu.

I am freelance translator in Sindhi, Urdu and English languages.

Hi all,

I hope you are all doing great. 

I have been part of this community for a while. I have not seen any opportunity to meet (virtually) to share and discuss our MSC applications in recent times. Is there anything going on in the coming weeks/months? I may have not spotted it in my inbox.

Otherwise, wouldn't it be nice to gather once or twice a year to talk about our applications, innovations, challenges or so?
