MOOSE GMSH 3D element mesh with 1D Elements - Feature Request/Implementation

Hi All,

I have a gmsh .msh file with a 1D elements and 3D elements. I found out that support for 1D and 3D elements was never implemented for gmsh from this message in the user group about a year ago:


I wanted to ask, if you know how easy it might be to implement the 3D and 1D for .msh file? Would this be on the order of a few lines of code or a significant effort and where would you suggest to start.

Alternatively, it is pretty easy for me to make a vtk and vtu file from the .msh file using python's meshio and if if it might be easy to implement mixed meshes for that file format.

It should be a fairly simple effort. Please open a ticket and one of our resources might be able to get to it. Alternatively, you could make an attempt yourself. We may be able to guide you on what to do.

This would be a libmesh ticket because that's where our readers are located.
