A few weeks ago, Netbeans alerted me that that I had updates to Netbeans. I installed them and then Netbeans wouldn't open.

Uninstalled NB.
Reinstalled NB.

Today, TMC had a popup that said:
course refresh failed.
please updated the TMC plugin.
use Help-->check for updates.

installed updates.

NB won't open.

Uninstalled NB.
Reinstalled NB.

NB opens but now I can't get past the TMC settings page. Same error about updating the TMC plugin.

Is there a work around?

Hi,

This is most likely due to one older version of NetBeans not properly checking versions that are required for plugins to be updated.

Easy way to get around this is to install latest NetBeans 8.1 or latest tmcbeans. The 1) might be easier, and the quide has nice pictures, the second one might be easier you know your way around your machine :)
1) For latest NetBeans 8.1
1.1) Download netbeans: https://netbeans.org/downloads/ - the Java SE (smallest version should suffice)

2) To install latest TMCBeans

Let us know if you have any troubles

Best,
Jarmo

I installed NB by using the 2) method.

I will try 1).

this is what NB says I'm using now:

Product Version: Netbeans with TMC 0.8.10

Java: 1.7.0_95; OpenJDK Client VM 24.95-b01

Runtime: OpenJDK Runtime Environment 1.7.0_95-b00

System: Linux version 3.16.0-62-generic running on i386; UTF-8; en_US (tmcbeans)

User directory: /home/dr8ton/.tmcbeans/dev

Cache directory: /home/dr8ton/.tmcbeans/dev/var/cache

Does TMC work with any other IDEs?
Eclipse?

Hey,

For reference, latest tmc-plugin version is: 0.8.17 (or if using the tmcbeans installers 0.9.1)

Unfortunately we currently support only NetBeans IDE. We have been considering eclipse integration, but due to limited engineering powers we haven't really got into implementing the eclipse plugin yet (IDE plugin development ain't that trivial either :) ).
