I'm using Windows Server 2016 and installing MongoDB mongodb-win32-x86_64-2008plus-ssl-4.0.1-signed.msi.
When I install it gives me the option of changing to D:\ drive but only for \log and \data, so I do get D:\MongoDB\Server\4.0\data and log, but bin gets installed on the C:\ drive.
How can I get \bin on the D:\ drive?
Thank you!

Hi Monica,

Look here:

...under this heading:

Run the Windows Installer from the Windows Command Interpreter.

You can change the installation directory with the INSTALLLOCATION variable. Don't forget to also set the correct PATH and to set the PATH for any users who need it. The same installation document gives good advice about setting up Windows to show all file extensions; you will need to do that. Finally, this is "just me", but I suggest you also reboot the host computer after installation.

Thanks

Bob

I haven't dabbled in the 4.0 installers yet but it looks like just running the msi you have options to choose the data and log folders for service creation, but when using msiexc you can specify INSTALLLOCATION but no options to install the service? That seems kind of weird to me. 3.6 installs binaries where you tell it to, you would think that then there is another prompt in the installer to choose service creation options with data/log paths... guess its time to pop open orca to check to see if there is anything else available because this wont work for our deployments...

Thanks so much. I'll give it a try.
