Dear members,

I am using Visual Modflow Flex to model my study area. After inserting all the input parameters and layers in the model, it gives no error message during translation of the model but when I ran the model, the run was finished in less than a second which is unusual for such a big area.

Just to confirm, I worked on the exercise which is included with the Visual Modflow Installation (C:\Users\Public\Documents\VisualModflowFlex\Tutorials\Conceptual Model\Supp Files). I faced the similar problem and it was not giving the output which was mentioned in the tutorial of this exercise i.e; there was no Residual and Max Change vs Infiltration Number graph on my screen after running this exercise model.

This implies to me that there is some issue in convergence of the model.

Can you please help me solve this issue?

Best regards
Syed

Hi Syed

I would try to run the same model directly through the root folder. If you have all the model packages already written you just need to put the .exe solver in the same folder, open it and call the .nam file. If your model is working properly it should generate all output files and then you just need to import the results into the GUI.

Sometimes the problem you are having is more related to the GUI than the model itself.

Cheers

The first thing one should look at when there are convergence problems is the list file (.LST). In Visual MODFLOW Flex this can be opened directly within the GUI by clicking on the folder icon at the top left of the viewer window (right next to the model workflow tree). Alternatively, any text editor can be used as this is a regular text file. When chasing problems, the modeler may inspect this file from bottom up. It of course involves some background knowledge of MODFLOW to understand the file. On another note, Flex version 4 is rather old and quite a few bugs could give you headache, so if possible, I would recommend upgrading to a newer version.

Fred,

I fully agree with your suggestions, but in this particular case I assume an input error somewhere (a typo or something) rather than a GUI issue as it is a tutorial. Nevertheless, I would move the project to a folder closer to the root and avoid using spaces in the path (such as the string "Conceptual Model" in the above path).
