Can't seem to sync: Newbie

I use a desktop for all my cards.  My kids use the laptop for their cards.

We are going on a holiday and I had planned to continue reviewing my cards but use the laptop.

In the past, I would just export my cards to the laptop, and then back again when the holidays were over.

 

Under the current version of Mnemosyne, exporting cards resets the learning data so I am trying the use the sync function.

I am new to this, but it is not working.   Does anyone have any suggestions?

 

1) The laptop is connected to the wireless network.  I can surf the web and write e-mails on the laptop like I am doing right now.

 

2) According to the Control Panel, both the desktop and the laptop have the checkmarks allowing Mnemosyne to communicate through Windows Firewall for both Private and Public.

3) For the desktop (the server) here are the settings for the "Sync server" tab

- There is a checkmark in "Allow devices to sync with this computer"

- Username: "Desktop"

- Password: "Done"

- Port: 8512

- There is a checkmark for "Check for changed media files on server"

- The server is running on 192.168.0.12.

 

4) For the laptop, I click on "Synch"

- Server is "192.168.0.12."  (I have also tried with 192.168.0.12 - no last period)

- Port: 8512

- Password: "Done"

- Port: 8512

 

I get the error message "Could not connect to server"

 

Any ideas?

This looks like a firewall issue. Have you tried disabling the firewall altogether on both machines? Also make sure Mnemosyne is actually running on the desktop when you sync. Don't use a final period for the ip address.
