Hi,

(copying the list back in)

‘optimise_Q_A_split = False’ will indeed remove these warnings. It disables the workaround we are currently using to estimate the height of images for automatically allocating the best use of screen real estate to Q or A.

Too bad the disappearance of your speed issues did not seem to coincide with changing this setting. BTW, the speed issues had nothing to do with a slight flicker when Mnemosyne is rescaling the size of the Q and A fields? Let me know if you see a pattern later.

With respect to the latex problems, did the contents of the latex directory make it safely across to your phone? Otherwise, the problem is most likely that you changed config.py for e.g. a custom latex preamble and did not copy over that file to your phone.

Cheers,

Peter

Thanks for following up! I'll try to answer. Since I mostly do my reviews on the android app these days, the speed hasn't really been a worry.

That's a bit strange.... I noticed that qtwebengine is a bit slower than the previous qtwebkit, but it typically renders in < 0.5 sec on my machine.

And if the problem was with qtwebkit, I guess the problem would be the same on all cards, not just some...

>When reviewing images, I sometimes, but not always get messages like this in the terminal "Missing path >/home/me/mnemosyne/default.db_media/maps/1018_Sogne.gif"  But reviewing the card seems to work fine, and mnemosyne finds the image.

Does that file actually exist or is Mnemosyne getting it from somewhere else?

The file exists - but only with an extra slash in front.  It is printed without the leading slash, like this

Missing path home/me/mnemosyne/default.db_media/maps/1018_Sogne.gif

(don't know why I added the slash in the previous email)

What happens if you add

optimise_Q_A_split = False

to your config.py? Does that impact the speed issues?

No - but maybe it removed the missing path messages. Haven't seen any after adding the line. Does that make sense?

After I changed the config.py I experienced the slowness on quite a few cards, but right now I am unable to recreate it. All the cards are super fast. Even after restarting mnemosyne..  Not sure I understand much of this - sorry...

I'll try to do some more reviews on my computer for a few days, and see if I see a pattern..

On your Ubuntu server, the best way to check if the latex images are being generated is to delete the contents of default.db_media/_latex and then do the initial sync again. This should result in the png files being created in that directory. The directory will also contain the latex log files, which perhaps contain useful info.

I deleted the database on my phone and all the latex images were recomputed. But  i still get the message "Problem with latex. Are latex and dvipng installed" on my phone.

It is perhaps worth noting that I have some other problems with mnemosyne on my phone as well - don't know if this is connected. It starts normally, but after closing it the first time, I have to start it twice in order to get the app started, since it crashes the first time. It's always been like that, and it continues with the latest version (1.1).

And again, thank you for your work on mnemosyne. I've been using it since 2008, and it's wonderful that  somebody is still developing and improving it.  :-)

Best regards.
