I have been running with the Windows desktop application as my sync server and the Android app as my main study device and sync client.

I was on 2.6 for the desktop with the mobile app auto-updating because Android. That was working but recently started crashing during the sync on the desktop side about a third of the time requiring a full sync. I figured it might have been protocol drift so I updated the desktop to 2.7.1.

Now all sync attempts are failing with the mobile client reporting "Wrong username or password." I've never had a either set since it's a private Wi-Fi network and Mnemosyne is only running for a couple minutes at a time usually.

So far I've tried
  • setting a username and password on both sides
  • clearing the username and password again
  • changing the server port
  • turning the server on and then off
  • force closing the mobile app and restarting the desktop application
  • restarting the Android device and Windows desktop
  • backing up and then deleting my config.db

Hmm, this is really strange. I guess you've double checked the
username and password? You can try with a really simple username and
password (like 'a' and 'a').

If that doesn't work, what I suggest you do is move your original data
directory (https://mnemosyne-proj.org/help/backups.php) to a safe
place, delete it both on your phone and on the desktop, so that you
can start from a completely blank slate. Then, start a new database
with a dummy card and try to sync it.

Username "a", password "a" worked. I thought I tried that already but I guess I typoed one end or the other. Short was better. :) Then it crashed again and I had to do a full sync. :) Maybe something weird in my card DB. It's been through a few upgrades. Anyway, getting syncs back so I can add new cards again was the big deal for me. Thanks for the response and the good work on Menmosyne.

Well, you should be able to use any password you like, but trying with a short one minimises the risk of typos :-)
